Shaboobs attack on Puntland army base, security checkpoint
BOSSASO, Somalia -- Somalia’s Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for grenade explosions in the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso and raid on nearby army base, Garowe Online reports. Citing senior Al Shabaab official, Pro-militant news site said Al Shabaab was behind the two apparently coordinated terror attacks.

Two Puntland government soldiers died in the raid on army base in Yalho village, some 45km south-east of Bossaso port city, with medics at Bossaso General Hospital telling Garowe Online that three soldiers, with one in critical condition are receiving medical treatment. Al Shabaab militants destroyed armoured fighting vehicle and Toyota surf, and razed a building as well as shallow water well on which locals had been reliant for potable water.

US-trained Special Forces (Puntland Security Force) uncovered three soldiers who went missing from Yalho army base during the deadly raid on Tuesday morning.

Puntland Security Forces have pushed themselves deeper into jungles in units to track fleeing militants, residents told GO.

With trivial soldiers’ presence, Yalho which is sandwiched between rugged terrain of Galgala and Sugure valley is also a base for vigilantes meant for temporary encounters against Al Shabaab fighters.

Grenade explosions at security checkpoint

At least three gunmen armed with hand grenades and AK-47 rifles attacked a strategic security checkpoint in New Bossaso neighborhood. Gun-battle following the grenade explosions left a civilian bystander killed and two others wounded. Conflicting reports indicate that one wounded attacker is being confined at Bossaso General Hospital.

Some sources have confirmed to GO that the suspected Al Shabaab assailant in the hospital is believed to be an ordinary resident hit by stray bullets while hanging out at restaurant ner Netco junction.

Malian Army Clashes with Rebels
[AnNahar] Soldiers exchanged fire with fighters from the main rebel alliance in Mali on Tuesday, military sources and a local official told AFP.

The fighting broke out around 5:00 am (0500 GMT) in the central market town of Tenenkou, a local councilor told AFP, identifying the bully boyz as members of the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA).

"Currently we are under fire from CMA rebel groups and the army. The shooting is in Tenenkou," the councilor told AFP.

The CMA said in a statement it had taken control of the town, although this was denied by the councilor and the Malian army.

"The rebels have no control whatsoever over Tenenkou. It's just bluster. We took steps to strengthen our positions in the center," a military source said.

"The Malian army should soon take control of the terrain. The fighting is ongoing."

Tuareg rebel groups have clashed with Malian forces and pro-government militias in the north since Monday last week.

DR Congo Army Kills 16 Ugandan Rebels
[AnNahar] Troops in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
have killed 16 Ugandan rebels in two days of festivities in the troubled northeast of the country, a military front man announced on Tuesday.

"The provisional toll is 16 dead on the rebel side and two injured in the (Congolese army). Six AK-47s (Kalashnikov assault rifles) were recovered," Major Victor Masandi of operation Sokola 1, which hunts the foreign rebels, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Fighting began on Sunday close to Kokola and Mayimoya when Ugandan "ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) rebels attacked the army" about 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of the major trading town of Beni in North Kivu province, Masandi said.

The festivities entailed "intensive firing with heavy weapons and light arms", while the Ugandan rebels on Monday "shot at a U.N. helicopter" that was part of the U.N. peacekeeping force deployed in the DRC, the major added.

"I strongly condemn the firing at one of our helicopters in Beni territory," Martin Kobler, the head of the U.N. mission in the DRC (MONUSCO), said in a statement late Monday.

The attack "by a group of unidentified gunnies" took place in the Oicha area, 20 kilometres north of Beni, Kobler said, adding that the aircraft landed safely.

"We will not be deterred in our active protection of civilians. The attackers will be pursued with maximum efforts and minimum tolerance within the rules of engagement," he vowed.

The U.N. Security Council has mandated troops in a special Force Intervention Brigade to take the offensive against the many gangs active in eastern DRC, where more than two decades of unrest has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

The Moslem rebels of the ADF, who launched an insurgency in neighbouring Uganda against President Yoweri Museveni in the mid-1990s, are accused of killing more than 260 people in and around Beni town between October and December last year.

Men, women and kiddies were massacred mainly with machetes and knives, prompting a joint operation by the Congolese army and U.N. troops to put down the jihadist fighters in December.

A degree of calm was restored, but the combined intervention failed to bring a halt to the killings of civilians, which spread northwards to Orientale province. Since January 1, at least 60 people have bit the dust across the region.

The Congolese army has announced that its men killed Kasada Karume, then number three in the ADF command structure, overnight on April 24.

The founding leader of the ADF, Jamil Mukulu, was placed in durance vile
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
at the end of April in Tanzania, according to Uganda's New Vision newspaper.

The rebels first established rear bases in the mountains near the Ugandan border in 1995. They are accused of brutal murders, looting and the forced enlistment of child soldiers, while making a profit from illegal trade in tropical timber.

Yemeni Tribal Fighters Kill 12 Saudi Soldiers As Shells Target KSA's Najran
[ALMANAR.LB] Yemeni tribal fighters attacked on Tuesday Saudi border military posts, killing 12 soldiers and destroying their vehicles and equipment.

The corpses were left at the posts as the remaining Saudi soldiers fled the area.

In a different context, the Saudi al-Riyadh newspaper confirmed that 6 shells targeted on Tuesday the city of Najran in KSA, which disrupted the electric power and the aviation movement in the area.
An Nahar adds about the shelling:
Coalition front man Brigadier General Ahmed Assiri told al-Ekhbariya that the rebels had "randomly" shelled Najran "hitting hospitals, schools and civilian homes."

In a statement on Twitter, Saudi Airlines announced that "all our flights from and to Najran were suspended today until further notice."

Al-Ekhbariya reported that schools had been closed in the city.

"Air and ground forces will respond in the right way to these hazardous acts and will not allow them to be repeated," Assiri said.

The Saudi military had already deployed Apache combat helicopters to target the rebels in the border area, he added.

Saudis close schools, suspend flights in Najran after Houthi attacks
Mortar shells fired by Iran-backed rebels in Yemen struck the Saudi border town of Najran on Tuesday, prompting a Saudi-led military coalition to warn it would hit back. The Al-Ekhbariya state television showed images of parked cars with windows blown out, chunks torn out of the sidewalk, a building peppered with shrapnel, and one room completely charred and with a hole in the roof.

The attack was confirmed by the coalition that has been carrying out air strikes against the Huthi Shiite rebels and their allies in Yemen since March 26. Coalition spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed Assiri told Al-Ekhbariya that the rebels had "randomly" shelled Najran "hitting hospitals, schools and civilian homes."

But do they know how to operate them...
Saudi Arabia has reinforced the frontier with artillery, tanks and hilltop lookout posts to block any Huthi incursion from their traditional highland stronghold just across the border. Its ground forces have repeatedly clashed with the rebels near its border with Yemen and its helicopters have been involved in the military action.

Saudi forces on Thursday killed dozens of rebels from Yemen who launched their first major attack on the kingdom since the air war began. Three Saudi soldiers also died in the battle after the rebels targeted their border observation posts, also on the Najran border.

But Tuesday's assault was the first by the Huthis on an inhabited Saudi town.

Assiri accused the rebels of attempting to sabotage a tentative coalition initiative announced on Monday to pause its air strikes to allow deliveries of humanitarian aid in Yemen.

"After the announcement of the humanitarian initiative yesterday, they want to express their rejection to any peace initiative and so targeted Najran," he said.

The spokesman described Tuesday's rebel attacks on Najran as "suicidal", warning that "all those who approach the border will be killed."

A lawsuit against 20-year-old T.A., who was en route to join ISIL in Syria from the German city of Dusseldorf, with 15 year jail charges of "being a member of a terror organization" was opened, after the his own father, M.A., denounced him.

The indictment stated that T.A. had not been identified as a member of ISIL but had collected information about the organization and showed persistent interest in going to Syria.

Southeast Asia
Rebels, Military: Filipino on U.S. most Wanted List Killed
More details on this recent article.
[AnNahar] A Filipino on the United States' list of most wanted "terrorists" has been killed in a firefight in the southern Philippines, Muslim rebel leaders and the military said Monday.

Abdul Basit Usman was killed in a remote mountainous area while being escorted by members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the nation's biggest rebel group, its vice chairman Ghazali Jaafar said.

"We can confirm that Usman is dead and his body was buried in accordance with Muslim tradition," Jaafar told Agence France Presse, but he refused to say who killed him.

Jaafar said Usman was killed as MILF rebels were escorting him to the group's leaders to surrender, adding that he probably did not know he was being taken back to the MILF leaders.

"There was a firefight along the way. Usman could have sensed that he was being double-crossed," Jaafar said.

However he refused to give any more details as to who killed Usman, saying only that the circumstances of the firefight were under investigation.

Military chief General Gregorio Catapang said Usman had been killed, but that it remained unclear as to who killed him.

"Basit Usman is dead, as to the circumstances of what happened during that encounter, it's up to (the investigation)," Catapang told reporters.

The military said five of Usman's followers had also died in the battle, and that some of his own men may have double crossed him.

The U.S. State Department's website describes Usman as "a bomb-making expert with links to the Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf Group terrorist organisations" leading him to be considered a threat to American and Filipino citizens and interests..

The fighters took up positions overlooking Hezbollah and Syrian army outposts in the towns of Wadi Barada, Al-Kfeir, Zabadani, Serghaya and Hreira.

Nusra Front, Islamist groups form 'Army of Fatah' in Qalamoun, kill Hezbollah Commander
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syria's Al-Qaeda wing, the Nusra Front, said an alliance with other Islamist groups active in Qalamoun region has been formed Tuesday called 'Army of Fatah in Qalamoun', similar to command room formed by Nusra in Idlib.

'Army of Fatah' is a reference to the conquests that spread Islam across the Middle East from the seventh century.

Activists said on Tuesday that Hezbollah field commander, Ali Khalil al-Alayan, has been killed in Qalamoun battles.

The festivities are still ongoing amid artillery and aerial bombardment by the Syrian regime army and allied militias stationed in the Lebanese villages of Nahle and Brital.

Monday's surprise attack came after Islamist bandidos holy warriors tactically withdrew from strategic areas in the western Qalamoun mountain range, allowing for the advance of Hezbollah and Syrian army forces, a source told The Daily Star.

The fighters also seized several positions around Al-Juba, including two strategic hill-top positions, the source added.

Idlib rebels seize two Army posts east Ariha
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Fatah Army on Tuesday has pressed more advances on the eastern front of Ariha town in Idlib province, taking control of two Syrian army posts, Zaman al-Wasl news hound said.

The alliance of Islamist groups, including al-Qaeda wing the Nusra Front, has taken control of Buthaina and Biout Abdulhai checkpoints in al-Arbaeen Mount east of Ariha.

Rebels also have launched an attack on al- Qayyasat camp near the international roadthat links to Latakia province. Fatah Army fighters seek to cut the supply route connect Bashir al-Assad's forces with the strategic town of Ariha and al-Mastouma camp, the news hound said.

Since Thursday, Idlib rebels have engaged in heavy fighting on the enclaves of Latakia province in areas close to al-Assad's ancestral home, the army and rebels said.
Rebels, who captured Jisr al-Shughour town early this week, seek a complete-liberated province of Idlib, such a mission that seems not impossible.

In response, Syrian air force has continued the fiercest aerial campaign on Idlib countryside. 5 people were killed in al-Hamidiya village and 40 others maimed in bbarrel-kaboom Monday.

Hezbollah captures Syrian village from Islamic militants
Hezbollah fighters captured a Syrian village Tuesday near the border with Lebanon after intense fighting with Islamic militants, the group's television station said, while an activist said battles are concentrating near a strategic Syrian hill.

The battles come amid reports in Lebanon that Hezbollah and the Syrian army are expected to launch an offensive against members of the Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's branch in Syria, and the Islamic State group in Qalamoun.

Hezbollah's leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah,
...who is reportedly afraid of his own shadow...
said in a televised speech late Tuesday that his group will attack militants in Qalamoun, adding that "time will tell" when the battle will become full blown. He added that there will be no formal announcement before the widely anticipated battle begins.

Nasrallah vowed that his group will continue fighting in Syria along with President Bashar Assad's forces, saying recent defeats of the Syrian army in the northwestern province of Idlib do not mean the president's opponents have won the war.
A very bloody stalemate will do...
"I tell our dear people in Syria that we were with you and will continue to be by your side — no matter what the developments are," Nasrallah said. "We will be where we are supposed to be.

"This is not the battle of the Syrian people alone," Nasrallah said. Hezbollah has sent hundreds of fighters into Syria to aid Assad's forces.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar television station said earlier in the day that members of the group captured the village of Hasina on the Syrian side of the border. The station said fighting in the border areas near the Lebanese villages of Brital and Tufeil killed 12 jihadi fighters and destroyed several of their vehicles.

Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Hezbollah fighters entered Hasina after Nusra Front members withdrew. Abdurrahman said the fighting is concentrating near the jihadi-held Moussa Hill, a strategic mountain overlooking wide areas of Qalamoun.

The Observatory said Tuesday's fighting killed four Hezbollah fighters.
