during a special night operation conducted by the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF) in northern Kunduz province.

Provincial police chief Abdul Bashir Rashid said the detained key Taliban leader has been identified as Qari Salim and was arrested with six other forces of Evil accompanying him.

He said Qari Salim was also acting as the shadow district governor of Khanabad district and was involved in majority of terrorist attacks in this province.

At least two forces of Evil were also killed and two others were maimed during the operation that led to the arrest of Qari Salim, the officials added.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The arrest of Qari Salim comes as the Taliban Lions of Islam have stepped up terrorist attacks in Northern provinces, including the Kunduz province during the recent months.

The group launched a major offensive earlier last month as they announced their spring offensive and attempted to retake the control of the strategic Kunduz city which briefly fell to Taliban control last year.

Pakistani women arrested in Afghanistan while transferring classified docs to ISIS
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan National Security and Defense Forces A (ANSDF) have jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
two Pak women as they were transferring classified documents to the loyalists of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and Syria ( ISIS) terrorist group.

The two women were arrested from the vicinity of eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province of Afghanistan where the loyalists of the terror group are active in a number of its districts.

The provincial government’s media office said the women were detained in the vicinity of Kot district, an area which hs been a stronghold of the terrorist group since they launched their operations in Afghanistan.

According to the provincial officials, the documents seized from the two women included information on how to make bombs and other weapons.

The source further added that the two women are in jug of the security personnel and an investigation is underway in this regard.

The loyalists of the terror group continue to maintain presence and attempt to expand foothold in this province despite they have been hardly suppressed in Afghan and US forces raids.

The detention of the two women further strengthens claims by Afghan officials regarding the role of Pakistain security agencies in supporting the turban groups in Afghanistan.

The Afghan officials have long been criticising Pakistain for supporting the Afghan bandidos bully boyz by providing sanctuaries to them inside their soil from where they plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

[Al Ahram] A military court in the Somali capital has given life terms to two men convicted of criminal masterminding the bombing in February of an airliner which made an emergency landing despite a gaping hole in its fuselage.

Abdiweli Mohammed Maow, a former senior security officer at the Mogadishu airport, was convicted of making the bomb that appeared to be a laptop computer. Areys Hashi Abdi was convicted in absentia.

The kaboom, claimed by the Islamic holy warrior group al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
, killed one passenger, Abdullahi Abdisalam Borle, who is suspected to have carried the bomb onto the plane. A body believed to be Borle's was found in a town north of Mogadishu.

Egypt court sentences MB leader Badie and others to 25 years in prison
[Al Ahram] An Ismailia court sentenced on Monday Moslem Brüderbund Supreme Guide Mohammed Badie and 35 others to 25 years in prison in the "Ismailia festivities" trial.

The Ismailia Criminal Court sentenced nine defendants to 15 years, 20 defendants to 10 years, and 20 defendants to three years.

According to Badie's lawyer, Badie is currently facing nearly 40 trials, with most sentences under appeal.
The court found them guilty of killing three citizens in Ismailia governorate and attempting to kill 16 others, as well as attempting to occupy a governorate building in July 2013 following the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

The sentences are subject to appeal.

The court also acquitted 20 people in the case.

This is the seventh life sentence in several different trials issued for the supreme guide of the Moslem Brüderbund since his arrest in 2013.

Three previous life sentences against Badie have been successfully appealed, with the court ordering retrials.

Badie was also sentenced to death in three other trials, with the Court of Cassation revoking two of the death sentences and ordering retrials. An appeal against the third sentence is under deliberation.

According to Badie's lawyer, Badie is currently facing nearly 40 trials, with most sentences under appeal.
He's doing his bit for the national economy by providing lifetime employment to his lawyers and their support staff. Possibly all those cases will be resolved before he dies, but the odds don't look good.
The Moslem Brüderbund was designated a terrorist organization in November 2013 by the Egyptian government.

IS Bardo massacre mastermind reported killed in Sirte battle
[Libya Herald] A senior IS commander in Libya, Tunisian Khaled Al-Shayeb, who Tunisian security forces thought they had killed last October is reported to have finally died this week in festivities with Misratan fighters to the west of Sirte.

Shayeb, also known as Luqman Abu Sakhr, was believed to have been one of the Death Eaters who organised last year’s attack on the Bardo museum in Tunis in which 22 people, mostly foreign tourists, were murdered.

The Tunisian National Guard claimed last year that Shayeb had been one of several commanders killed during an operation in Gafsa.

The operations room of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous which is running the Misratan push towards Sirte said that Shayeb’s body had been identified by detained terrorists.

Algerians make arms find near Libyan border
[Libya Herald] The Algerian army announced today it uncovered a terrorist arms cache near the Libyan border.

The Defence Ministry in Algiers said this evening that the find, near Bordj Badji Mokhtar in Adrar province, contained two powerful machine guns, a Kalashnikov, three grenades and almost a thousand rounds of assorted ammunition.

The circumstances of the discovery are unclear. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the Algerian armed forces have increased the number of troops and boosted their border patrols following the January 2013 attack on the In Amenas gas plant in which 39 foreign hostages and an Algerian security guard died. That assault was mounted by a group loyal to Mokhtar Belmokhtar which was believed to have been armed and trained beforehand in Libya.

PFG says its forces ‘almost in control’ of Ben Jawad and near Nufliya
[Libya Herald] Two units of the central region Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG) from Ajdabiya have moved towards within a few kilometres of Nufliya and Ben Jawad. A source in the PFG close to its leader Ibrahim Jadhran told the Libya Herald that it was "almost" in control of Ben Jawad and very close to Nufliya.

Although IS forces were reported to have withdrawn earlier from the two towns, the reason for the delay in entering them, the source explained, was because the area was heavily mined.

"It is very difficult," he said, adding that two PFG fighters had been killed today in a mine kaboom near Ben Jawad and another seriously maimed. He was taken to Ras Lanuf.

Other reports speak of continuing heavy festivities around Nufliya between the PFG and IS. It was captured by the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) in February 2105 and Ben Jawad in January this year.

The two PFG units have taken separate routes towards their targets, although the two places are just 30 kilometres apart. Those heading towards Ben Jawad have taken the coast road, those to Nufliya taking a more southerly route using desert tracks.

Nufliya itself is 140 kilomtres east of Sirte, the main IS base.

Yesterday, forces that are part of the Bunyan Marsous operation moving from the west of Sirte claimed to have taken the Khaleej power plant 20 kilometres west of Sirte which Misratan forces abandoned a year ago.

Today, the Bunyan Marsous operations room (BMOR) called on air support from Misrata to take out a truck, believed to be a suicide bomb, heading towards the power plant. It was reported destroyed and those inside killed. Two other vehicle said to belong to IS were also attacked on the main road between Sirte and the power station.

According to BMOR front man Mohammed Al-Gasri, the aim is to encircle Sirte. It is not clear, however, if this is to be done in collaboration with PFG.

The central region PFG supports the Government of National Accord and the Presidency Council which set up the BMOR. For its part, the BMOR Facebook page indicates that the two are working together, putting out reports about the PFG members killed in the mine kaboom

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
asked if the PFG and the BMOR were now coordinating their plans, the PFG source not only said he did not know, he added that it would not allow Misratan troops to move east to Nufliya or Ben Jawad.

The PFG still strongly supports Cyrenaica and federalism.

Arabia
Kuwait upholds death sentence for mosque blast ringleader
[Al Ahram] Kuwait's supreme court on Monday upheld the death sentence handed down to the main convict in the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group bombing of a Shiite mosque that killed 26 people.

The court confirmed the sentence of capital punishment passed on Abdulrahman Sabah Saud, a stateless man who drove the Saudi jacket wallah to the mosque in June last year.

The court also upheld jail terms of between two and 15 years for eight people, including four women, and acquitted 15 others including three women.

The court did not hear the appeals of five others -- four Saudis and a stateless man -- who had been sentenced to death in absentia by a lower court.

Under Kuwaiti law, sentences issued in absentia are not reviewed by higher courts until those convicted appear in person.

The four Saudi men still on the lam include two brothers who smuggled the explosives belt used in the attack into Kuwait from neighbouring Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
. The fifth man is a stateless Arab.

Twenty-nine defendants, including seven women, had been charged with helping the Saudi suicide bomber attack a Shiite mosque in the capital, which was the bloodiest in Kuwait's history.

An IS-affiliated group calling itself Najd Province claimed the bombing as well as suicide kabooms on two Shiite mosques in Saudi Arabia in May last year.

Najd is the central region of Saudi Arabia.

The Sunni turbans of IS consider Shiites to be heretics and have repeatedly attacked Shiite targets in the region.

In addition to driving the suicide bomber, Saud was also charged with bringing the explosives belt from a site near the border and aiding the bomber.

At his initial trial, Saud confessed to most charges, but later denied them all in the appeals and supreme courts.

The death penalty in Kuwait is carried out by hanging, and to be implemented it requires the approval of the Gulf state's ruler.

Among the supreme court's main verdicts on Monday, the court upheld the commuting of the death sentence for the alleged IS leader in Kuwait, Fahad Farraj Muhareb, to 15 years in prison.

It also upheld the acquittal of Jarrah Nimer, owner of the car used to transport the bomber.

Courts in Kuwait have previously handed down several verdicts against IS supporters and financiers.

The Grand Turk
Six killed, many injured, by roadside bombs in southeast Turkey
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Roadside bombs killed at least six people in two separate attacks on security forces in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's largely Kurdish southeast on Monday, security sources said, adding to the violence that has flared across the region in the last 24 hours.

One bomb hit a passing police vehicle in the town of Silopi in Sirnak province near the border with Iraq, the sources said, hours after Turkish warplanes struck camps belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

Four non-combatants were killed and 19 other people were maimed, including five security force members, in that attack, the sources said. Turkey's Dogan News Agency said the bomb had been placed inside a manhole and exploded as a police vehicle passed.

Earlier, near the eastern city of Van, PKK fighters detonated a roadside kaboom by remote control targeting a passing armoured vehicle. Two coppers were killed and a third was maimed, the sources said.

Clashes between Turkish security forces and the PKK have reached their most intense in two decades since the breakdown of a two-year ceasefire last July.

Thousands of turbans and hundreds of civilians and soldiers have been killed since the PKK resumed its armed fight. The government has refused to return to the negotiating table and has vowed to "liquidate" the PKK, considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, Europe and the United States.

Late on Sunday, PKK snipers attacked a Turkish base located inside Iraq, killing a lieutenant, the sources said. In the past Turkey has garrisoned a battalion in Iraq's Kani Masi region to prevent PKK fighters from crossing into Turkey.

A man suspected of smuggling goods across the border between Iraq and Turkey was killed and five others injured, when unidentified forces opened fire on smugglers across the border in the Uludere district, they said.

Uludere was the site of an Arclight airstrike in December 2011 that killed 34 young men and boys after the military mistook them for PKK bad boys. Smuggling of cigarettes, fuel and household items is widespread in the poverty-stricken border region.

The PKK also attacked a base in the Turkish town of Siirt, killing one soldier, the military General Staff said. A police officer was also killed in Sirnak province, under a round-the-clock curfew since March 14, security sources said.

In the village of Kulp in Diyarbakir province, a civilian and five members of the village guard, a state-backed militia that fights the PKK, were maimed in a car-kaboom, they also said.

The General Staff said on its website it had destroyed PKK shelters and weapon stores in the Metina area of northern Iraq on Sunday during the air strikes. It gave no casualty count.

The PKK has been based in the remote, mountainous region of northern Iraq, which borders southern Turkey, since the 1990s. The PKK launched its insurgency against the Turkish state in 1984 and more than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

Residents Return to Ravaged Turkish Town as Curfew Lifted

[AnNahar] Residents on Monday cautiously returned to a war-ravaged town in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

's southeast after authorities partially lifted a more than two-month curfew following a major operation against Kurdish turbans.

The curfew in Yuksekova, which has been in place since March 13, was lifted between 6:00am and 8:00pm (0300-1700 GMT) and the hours are to be further extended during the upcoming Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the local province of Hakkari said in a statement.

After the measure was announced, hundreds streamed back to the town which lies in Turkey's extreme southeastern corner on the border with Iran and Iraq, an AFP photographer said. On some streets, there were near apocalyptic scenes, with some buildings reduced to mountains of rubble while others sustained severe damage. Elsewhere, a young man walked through the devastation, waving a two-finger victory sign to passers-by.

Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said Monday that a total of 6,320 buildings had been badly damaged or destroyed following festivities in five areas, including Yuksekova, and that rebuilding would cost one billion lira ($340 million/303 million euros). State media said that a rebuilding process would now begin in Yuksekova, backed by interest-free loans.

Five security personnel killed in separate PKK attacks
A total of five security personnel, including two soldiers and three police officers, were killed in outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attacks in Turkey’s southeastern provinces of Şırnak, Siirt and Van late on May 29 and on May 30.

PKK members attacked the Kanimasi military zone in the Uludere district of Şırnak province, near the Iraqi border, with long-barreled weapons at around 9 p.m. on May 29. In the attack First Lieutenant Mehmet Düzenli was wounded and he later succumbed to his injuries at the Şırnak Military Hospital. A wide-scale operation was begun in the region to apprehend the fleeing PKK attackers.

Meanwhile, another soldier was killed during operations against PKK militants in the Pervari district of Siirt, the Turkish General Staff announced. Arms haul in Doda
[Daily Excelsior] Army and police today recovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives by destroying a Death Eater hideout at Sunarthau forests in Doda district.

Official sources said a joint team of Army and police carried out searches in Sunarthau forests for past several days after getting specific information about suspicious unidentified movement and a dump of weaponry lying deep inside the forests.

Recoveries were made this morning which included one AK-56 rifle, two 9mm pistols, one country made pistol, seven AK magazines, two 9mm pistol magazines, one Pika magazine, four grenades of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), five hand grenades of Pakistain origin, 1696 rounds of 7.62 mm AK-47, 1340 rounds of 7.62mm CTN, 40 belted rounds of Pika, two binoculars, one telescopic night sight, one camera, 10 recording cassettes and sustenance stores.

The arms and ammunition had been dumped by the former holy warriors inside a natural cave hideout, sources said.

They added that the Army had been getting information of suspicious unidentified movement of personnel in the general area for the last three months and therefore, a close watch was being maintained. The recovered arms reportedly belonged to one of the Death Eater outfits of the area, active in the past, which could have been hidden for later usage, sources said.

"The area due to its remoteness and rugged terrain makes it an ideal location for establishing a hideout. The dense forest and steep gradient increased the degree of difficulty in approach to the intended target area and subsequent search," sources said.

The recovery of war like stores was possible only due to the accurate intelligence developed by the Army and launching of well synchronised joint operation with SOG in the dense jungle, in a relentless day and night operation of 36 hours, sources said.

Apart from the three columns of the Army, the team also included one head constable with 6 persons of SOG from Thathri cop shoppe. The recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to the Thathri cop shoppe wherein a FIR has been lodged.

"The recovery of a huge cache has given a major success to the security forces and a massive blow to the murderous Moslems in the area, thereby preventing the arms and ammunition from falling into the hands of inimical elements, aiming at revival of militancy in Doda district," sources said.

The KRSC statement listed nine villages that had been occupied by IS group since the summer of 2014 and were previously mainly inhabited by northern Iraq's Kakai and Shabak minorities.

The operation involved around 5,500 peshmerga fighters backed by US-led coalition air strikes and reconquered an area of 120 square kilometres (46 square miles).

The area, near Khazir, lies near the main road between Mosul and the autonomous Kurdish region's capital Arbil.

The KRSC claimed that in the course of the two-day operation, 140 IS group fighters were killed and 14 boom-mobiles were destroyed.

The peshmerga officer in charge of the region said at a news conference that four Kurdish forces were killed and 34 others maimed during the operation.

Hamas Is Co-Opting Humanitarian Cement Shipments For Military Use
[Daily Caller] Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is seizing as much as 95 percent of the cement entering the Gaza Strip and using it for military purposes, said the Israeli Foreign Ministry Thursday.

Director-General Dore Gold said the finding was a the result of his ministry's investigation into Israeli aid shipments entering the Gaza strip as part of humanitarian aid efforts. Hamas has reportedly been using cement meant for civilian construction projects in order to build tunnels into Israeli territory from which the group can engage in terrorist attacks.

"From our own investigations we found that out of every 100 sacks of cement that come into the Gaza Strip [from Israel], only five or six are transferred to civilians," said Gold, addressing the United Nations World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey. "A hundred sacks is what is necessary to rebuild a home, the rest are confiscated by Hamas and used for military purposes."

Israel intercepts communication equipment en route to Gaza terror groups
[IsraelTimes] Drones, rifle scopes, and radio and video receivers discovered in mail packages bound for Paleostinian enclave, Defense Ministry says

Dozens of packages containing drone parts and other communications equipment en route to terror cells operating inside the Gazoo Strip were intercepted by Israeli security forces in recent weeks, the Defense Ministry said Monday.

The packages, which were shipped through the Israeli postal service, contained disassembled drones, rifle scopes, radio receivers, cellphone signal boosters and video transmitters, a statement from the ministry said.

Some of the equipment, including the 5.8 GHz video transmitters confiscated at the border crossing earlier on Monday morning -- are banned for private use both in Israel and Paleostinian Authority-controlled areas of the West Bank.

According to the statement, a joint operation by border authorities, police, the Shin Bet security agency, and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories intercepted the packages at the Erez border crossing at the Gazoo-Israel border over the past several weeks.

Security forces have launched an investigation into locating the source of the equipment and those responsible for their attempted smuggling into Gazoo.

The ministry said a number of other smuggling attempts of drones have been foiled by the Shin Bet in recent weeks.

Earlier this year, guards at the Kerem Shalom border crossing into the southern Gazoo Strip uncovered a shipment of drones equipped with high-quality cameras hidden in an Israeli truck carrying toys.

In March, Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, drones reportedly flew out of the Gazoo Strip and into Egyptian airspace above the Sinai Peninsula several times as the Egyptian army stood by helpless to prevent the incursions. Egyptian radar picked up three drones flying out of the southern Gazoo Strip on numerous occasions, the Egyptian Al Osboa newspaper reported at the time. The unmanned aerial vehicles penetrated as far as El Arish and Sheikh Zuweid, some 50 kilometers from the Egypt-Gazoo border.

Border forces opened fire on the drones but couldn’t hit them because they were flying at an altitude of 750 meters (2,250 feet), the report said. Under the terms of the 1979 peace deal with Israel, Egypt is not allowed to station any anti-aircraft weapons in the Sinai region.

In December 2014, Hamas’s military wing launched a locally manufactured drone during a Gazoo City march in honor of the founding of the group, prompting the Israel Air Force to summon jets to the area, but no shots were fired at the unmanned aircraft.

Earlier that year, during Israel’s war against Hamas in Gazoo, the terrorist group launched two drones into Israeli airspace before they were promptly blasted out of the sky by IAF-launched Patriot missiles.

East Jerusalem teens nabbed in stabbing of elderly women

[IsraelTimes] 2 allegedly carried out attack on group out for stroll in Peace Forest, near Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, while a third conspired with them, officials say

The Israel Police and Shin Bet security service incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
three underage East Jerusalem residents in connection with a stabbing attack earlier this month, in which two elderly Jewish women, one of them a Holocaust survivor, were moderately injured, officials said Monday.

On May 10, a group of five elderly Israelis were walking along the Armon Hanatziv promenade in the capital -- in an area of the park known as the Peace Forest -- when two Arab teenagers wearing masks pulled out knives and the "wooden handle of an ax" and attacked two of the women before fleeing the scene, police said. The victims, aged 82 and 86, were hospitalized in moderate condition.

According to police, the attack was premeditated, and the suspects had discussed it "while they were at school through social media, specifically Facebook."

The three suspects are all 16 to 17 years old and are residents of the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of East Jerusalem, police said. Due to their young age, their identities will not be made public. Two of them are accused of carrying out the assault, while the third is believed to have conspired with them and planned to "carry out the stabbing attack if the other two died," the Shin Bet said in a statement.

On the morning of the attack, the trio gathered at a mini-market in Jabel Mukaber before setting off for the promenade to "wait for Jewish victims," the police said.

The third teenager, who allegedly helped plan but did not actually take part in the stabbing, told Sherlocks he decided not to join his friends in the terror attack "for fear that it would cause his parents’ home to be destroyed," the police said.

After the attack, the suspects are believed to have stashed the weapons nearby before one went home and the second went to school. Later on, one of them returned to the scene, retrieved the knives and cudgel, and hid them in Jabel Mukaber, police said.

Throughout the day, the two suspects "spoke with one another through WhatsApp and Facebook messages and planned to carry out another stabbing attack in light of the ’success’ of the Peace Forest attack," the police said. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the pair were arrested before they could carry out such an attack, a police spokesperson said.

The mother of one of the two attackers was also arrested last week at a checkpoint east of Jerusalem when border guards discovered a knife in her possession, the police said.

The three suspects were arrested on May 19, but information about their arrests was kept secret under a court-approved gag order. That order was lifted on Monday when the three teenagers were officially informed that they would be charged in a Jerusalem District Court.

The Arab neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber borders the Jewish Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, an area that has been the site of contention for years with rock and Molotov cocktail attacks on an almost nightly basis at times.

Two Philippine Soldiers Killed in Clashes with Militants
[AnNahar] Two Philippine soldiers were killed during festivities with Islamic Death Eaters trying to regain their base in a remote, mountainous region of the southern Philippines, the military said on Monday.

Ten soldiers were also maimed and about 2,000 residents displaced during the festivities with gunnies from the Maute group which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

General Gerardo Barrientos, commander of the division overseeing the offensive, said the group was believed to have fewer than 100 fighters, but had been a continued threat in the area even after losing their headquarters in February.
Security officials told AFP the operation against the Maute group in the small Muslim-populated farming town of Butig in Lanao del Sur province began on Wednesday and was continuing.

The offensive was launched after the Death Eaters moved back into territory that the military secured during deadly festivities in February, they said.

"They came back to their camp and we were not able to prevent it because our troops were deployed to other areas," said Colonel Roseller Murillo, the military chief with responsibility for the area.

Murillo said soldiers had to leave the area to provide security elsewhere for the national elections on May 9.

He said, based on intelligence reports, about 37 Death Eaters were believed to have been killed. But he said no bodies had been recovered and AFP could not independently verify the corpse count.

General Gerardo Barrientos, commander of the division overseeing the offensive, said the group was believed to have fewer than 100 fighters, but had been a continued threat in the area even after losing their headquarters in February.

He said the military launched the latest offensive after the Death Eaters bombed power transmission towers, and kidnapped and beheaded two workers at a local sawmill in April.

Barrientos said the Maute group was believed to have links with the Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiyah, which carried out the 2002 bombings in the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, killing 202 people.
"The group intends to regain the area," Barrientos said.

The southern Philippines has been plagued by a Muslim separatist insurgency for over four decades, with the conflict leaving more than 120,000 dead.

President Benigno Aquino's outgoing administration secured a peace deal with the largest Muslim rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), but talks collapsed after parliament failed to pass a law that would have created a new Muslim autonomous region. MILF leaders have repeatedly warned that Muslim rebels frustrated at the setback could be lured into more extreme forms of resistance, and that the Islamic State group could establish a stronghold in the south.

The future of peace talks under incoming president Rodrigo Duterte is unclear. He has said he can secure peace by establishing a federal form of government, devolving power to the regions.

Barrientos said the Maute group was believed to have links with the Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiyah, which carried out the 2002 bombings in the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, killing 202 people. Jemaah Islamiyah Death Eaters have had a long presence in the southern Philippines and have trained locals.

Born in 1971, Jamie Bright was the father of one child, but nevertheless he decided to join the YPG as an ex-Australian soldier.

One day after the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched the campaign to capture Northern Raqqah on 25 May, he was killed in an attack by the ISIS group. Bright was killed alongside with three other YPG fighters.

“As YPG, we promise again that we continue your struggle, and we bow our heads for these four martyrs who sacrificed their souls in this revolution,” the YPG leadership said.

Previously, two Australian citizens were killed while fighting as part of the YPG. Reece Harding (23) also known as Heval Bagok Australia was killed when he stepped on a landmine on Saturday 27 June 2015. Also, Ashley Johnston died in the battle between the YPG and ISIS in the city of Tel Hamis near the Syria-Iraq border on February 24, 2015.

“Foreigners are attracted because of the simplicity of right and wrong. Defending a secular people’s homeland,” said Chris Scurfield, the father of Konstandinos Erik Scurfield, 25, an ex-Royal Marine from Barnsley who died while fighting ISIS near the Syrian Kurdish city of Qamishli.

“Jamie was an amazing special guy. I met him in Sulymaniya shared a kebab and he offered me £2k just to help my family out after Kosta passed,” Scurfield told ARA News.

“Yes, but it was difficult time for me. He was enjoying some rest and relaxation, but never met my son, but we talked about how he didn’t have too many relations just his mum and he kept a low media profile because of her. He was worried about his lost passport so it was difficult for him to travel out but he was very happy to stay, he loved the work and the guerilla style of fighting. He had been in the Australian military so was well trained,” he added.

“I do not know exactly why he joined other than why get trained if you never use your skills properly, to help a people find resistance and independence,” he told ARA News.

Photo of missing Japanese man in Syria emerges
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A fresh photo of a Japanese journalist who went missing in Syria last year has emerged online, showing the heavily bearded man holding a sign saying this is his "last chance."

The photo, which received widespread coverage in Japanese media Monday, shows freelance journalist Jumpei Yasuda, who has been missing for almost a year, wearing an orange shirt, his hair and beard grown long.

He is seen holding a piece of paper with a handwritten message in Japanese that says: "Please help. This is the last chance. Jumpei Yasuda."

In a one-minute video posted online in March, the bearded man wearing a black jumper with a scarf around his neck says in English: "Hello, I am Jumpei Yasuda. Today is my birthday, 16 March."

The footage was posted online by Tarik Abdul Hak, who told AFP it had been provided to him by a group called al-Noor, which he said "has been mandated by (the al-Qaeda-linked) al-Nusra to carry out a mediation for his release".

NHK reported that it was the same person who had posted the new photo online.

Turkish military strikes kill 28 ISIL militants in Syria
Turkish artillery strikes have destroyed dozens of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in northern Syria and killed 28 militants of the group, the Turkish military said on May 30.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said 58 positions in Aleppo province were hit on May 29, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 ISIL fighters. Two bomb-laden vehicles were also destroyed in the fire.

This is the third consecutive day that Turkey has hit ISIL positions in Syria after rockets fired from ISIL-controlled territory in Syria hit the southern border province of Kilis on May 27, wounding five people, and another border province, Gaziantep, on May 28. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said they and U.S.-led coalition planes killed a total of 144 ISIL militants in Syria in separate strikes on May 27 and May 28.

Rocket attacks from the ISIL-controlled Bab region have claimed the lives of 21 people, including eight Syrians, in Kilis since January.

Maybe they just missed them and hit their own allies by mistake.
