Another militiamen murdered in Derna
[Libya Herald] Another member of the local Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade has been killed in Derna. Mazig El Gabsi was bumped off last night by unknown assailants a source from the town told the Libya Herald.

"El Gabsi was shot by unknown gunnies driving in a car, in the west of Derna and was dead on arrival at Harish Hospital," the source said .

Reports said that he was killed after leaving the brigade's HQ in the western entrance of the town, and members of the brigade took his body to Harish Hospital to permit the burial. He was buried immediately.

Members of the brigade are reported to have chased the car but they lost it. It was later found but no one was in it .

A murderous power struggle has been taking place in Derna between the brigade and Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
, both of them Islamist. Ten days ago, a former brigade commander was shot at but was unhurt.

6 alleged Brotherhood members arrested for protest-related charges
[Al Ahram] Six alleged members of the Moslem Brüderbund were detained for 15 days pending an order by Cairo prosecutors to investigate charges of their joining illegal protests, inciting protests, riots and violence as well as planning to overthrow the regime.

Brotherhood members and supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi have been rounded up frequently by police since the violent dispersal of a pro-Morsi sit-in in August 2013 and the designation of the group as terrorist organization last December.

Thousands are currently facing similar charges while the Brotherhood's top leadership are being tried on charges including terrorism, inciting violence and espionage. The Brotherhood's Supreme Guide Mohammed Badie has received a death sentence for violence-linked charges.

Renewed Battle for Libyan Airport Kills 4
[VOA News] Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
around Libya's largest airport killed at least four people Sunday amid a grim resurgence of violence in the country as rival militias enter a second week of deadly festivities.

The renewed battle between the Zintan militia, which controls Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
International Airport, and armed Islamist fighters comes two days after attempts at a cease-fire between the groups collapsed.

Witnesses said fighting on Sunday spilled into residential neighborhoods around the airport, where a standoff began one week ago, paralyzing flights into and out of the capital.

Thousands of people have fled their homes in the area, as the gangs exchanged fire from guns, anti-aircraft cannons, and rockets.

Iraq
Islamic State Claims Wave of Baghdad Bombings
[VOA News] The Islamic State group has grabbed credit for a wave of boom-mobiles in mostly Shi'ite areas of Baghdad which killed at least 27 people on Saturday.

The hardline Sunni Islamist organization which has led an offensive across northern and western Iraq said two of the kabooms were suicide missions by bombers it named as Abum al-Qaaqaa al-Almaani and Abu Abdul Rahman al-Shami - noms de guerre which suggested they were from Germany and Syria.

Saturday's blasts were the deadliest in the Iraqi capital since the Sunni insurgency erupted in the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and then swept through Sunni regions of Iraq towards Baghdad.

The first suicide kaboom took place at a checkpoint where soldiers, police and Shi'ite volunteer fighters were gathered, the Islamic State said in an Internet statement. The other struck in Kadhimiya, the site of a major Shi'ite shrine.

At the same time two boom-mobiles were set off in the west of the capital. "The toll of these blessed operations was the killing and wounding of 150 people," the statement said, warning of greater attacks to come.

Liveblogging Operation Protective Edge: Day 14
[IsraelTimes] Large rocket barrage fired at southern, central Israel

Israel suffers casualties as IDF thwarts tunnel attacks, killing at least 10 infiltrators from Gaza; army names seventh soldier slain Sunday; over 20 Palestinians said to die overnight strikes; UN calls for ceasefire

The Times of Israel is liveblogging events as they unfold through Monday, the 14th day of Operation Protective Edge. The UN Security Council called for an immediate truce in Gaza Monday morning after an emergency meeting held at the request of Jordan. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Israel's actions in the Hamas stronghold of Shejaiya were "atrocious." The IDF announced Sunday evening that 13 Golani Brigade soldiers died overnight in fighting in Gaza, raising the Israeli army death toll to 18. The soldiers were killed in heavy combat in Shejaiya, which also left over 70 Palestinians dead, Gaza Health Ministry officials said. Israel said the neighborhood is a Hamas stronghold, and that the army had warned residents to evacuate it.

Bloody Sunday: Over 100 Palestinians killed on 13th day of operation
[Ynet] Bloody Sunday: Day 13 of Operation Protective Edge has seen the greatest number of casualties so far on both sides, with 13 killed IDF soldiers and over 100 Paleostinian deaths.

Thirteen Golani Brigade soldiers were killed overnight and early Sunday morning in several different incidents.

Their deaths raised to 18 the total number of soldiers killed since Israel's ground operation began late on Thursday. It was the largest number of soldiers killed in combat since the 2006 Leb war.

More than half of Sunday's Paleostinian victims were killed in a blistering hours-long Israeli assault on Shejaia, near Gazoo City, which began before dawn and has so far claimed over 60 Paleostinian lives, with over 200 maimed.

With ambulances unable to reach the area, the International Committee of the Red Thingy called for an urgent temporary ceasefire to allow paramedics to evacuate the dead and maimed, which was agreed on by the two sides.

Inside the ravaged neighborhood, there were hellish scenes of carnage and chaos as a convoy of ambulances moved in to make the most of the calm, an AFP correspondent said.

Entire buildings were collapsed on themselves or strewn into the streets, while others were still ablaze, sending pillars of black smoke skywards.

There were also bodies, blackened and charred almost beyond recognition, some with whole limbs missing.

Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a IDF front man, said the military met a "huge" level of resistance from Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, Death Eaters in Shejaia, with anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic-weapons fired from houses and buildings.

Lerner said that so far, 10 tunnel access shafts were found in the area. He added Shejaia had been a main rocket launching area and that residents were warned ahead of the offensive to leave the area.

"We are mobilizing in order to strike Hamas where it hurts," he said.

Uncovering terror tunnels
Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
the IDF continued destroying terror tunnels in the Gazoo Strip on Sunday, uncovering six tunnels.

Two of the tunnels were located in the northern Gazoo Strip. One had five shafts and troops found explosive barrels in them. The other had four shafts and another one inside Israel.

Two additional tunnels were located in the center of the Strip - one with eight shafts and the other with two, one of them inside Israel.

The remaining two were located in the southern Gazoo Strip, one with one shaft and another, 1.2km long, with four, one of them inside Israel.

In addition to that, the IDF said that security forces have killed more than 130 gunnies in Gazoo,, including more than 60 Saturday overnight, and attacked 1,032 targets overall since ground operations began on Thursday night. Some 341 of the targets were attacked on Sunday.

Although Israel said earlier Sunday it was expanding its ground operation to destroy the network of tunnels used by Death Eaters to stage cross-border attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said troops could end their mission "fairly quickly".

And Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon also suggested it could end within days.

"My assessment is that in another two or three days, the lion's share of the tunnels, from our perspective, will be destroyed," he said.

But he demanded international action to "demilitarize Gazoo" the tiny coastal enclave, which is home to 1.7 million Paleostinians and is one of the most densely populated areas on the planet.

Overnight fighting
Large infantry forces entered Gazoo overnight. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit announced that the ground forces joined the ongoing operations to destroy terror infrastructure in the Gazoo Strip, which began with the ground incursion.

The escalation of the operation occurred after a difficult day in the Strip, during which four IDF soldiers were killed in a series of incidents.

During the overnight firefights, the Golani Brigade commander, Colonel Rassan Alian, sustained light-to-moderate injuries.

According to the Paleostinians, IDF strikes overnight claimed the lives of four people. Gazoo Strip residents said last night's bombing campaign was the heaviest of the operation's 13 days.

A senior military source said that 3,000 targets were attacked since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge.

Fifteen Paleostinians were tossed in the calaboose
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
during the operations.

We terminated 32 Israel troops: Hamas
[Iran Press TV] Al-Qassam Brigades, which is the military wing of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, says Paleostinian resistance fighters have killed at least 32 Israeli soldiers since Saturday.

Hamas military sources say scores of Israeli soldiers injured in the festivities with Paleostinian fighters have been transferred to hospital. A senior Israeli military commander is said to be among them.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the Israeli military has confirmed only seven deaths.

The Paleostinian fighters also say they have targeted six Israeli tanks with rocket-propelled grenades.

This is while a fresh volley of Paleostinian retaliatory rockets have hit several areas in Israel, including a neighborhood in Tel Aviv.

More retaliatory rockets have been fired out of the Gazoo Strip deep into Israel. Warning sirens have wailed in several Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Eshkol and Be'er Sheva.

Over 1700 projectiles have been launched from Gazoo in less than two weeks. Hamas says it is ready for a prolonged conflict and is continuously stocking up its weapons.

Political analysts say the war on Gazoo is taking its toll on the Israeli army, with Paleostinian fighters stepping up their retaliatory attacks.

The developments come as bloodshed continues in the besieged Gazoo Strip for the 13th straight day with no let-up to the Israeli onslaught on the besieged enclave.

The overall Paleostinian corpse count has now soared to at least 410. Israeli tanks and artillery continue to shell northern and eastern Gazoo, while fighter jets keep pounding other positions in the densely-populated region.

Israeli bulldozers destroy Hamas tunnels in Gaza
[ARABNEWS] Israeli bulldozers on Saturday demolished more than a dozen tunnels the military said were being used by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, gunnies to sneak beneath the southern border of the Jewish state and carry out attacks on its soldiers and civilians.

Paleostinians reported intensified Arclight airstrikes and shelling as the corpse count from Israel's ground offensive rose to at least 342 Paleostinians, including many civilians. Five Israelis — three soldiers and two civilians — have also been killed since the fighting began more than 10 days ago, and dozens of Israelis have been injured as Gazoo rockets continue to rain down on Israeli cities.

Israeli soldiers uncovered 34 shafts leading into about a dozen underground tunnels, some as deep as 30 meters (yards), the military said. Israel views the tunnels as a strategic threat, and demolishing them is a high priority in their campaign.

Still, Paleostinian gunnies disguised in Israeli uniforms managed to infiltrate Israel from Gazoo using another tunnel and on Saturday killed two Israeli soldiers and injured several others, the military said. At least one Paleostinian was killed in the clash.

Hamas said 12 of its fighters participated in the attack and that the group took some of the soldiers' weapons back to their hideouts.

In two other confrontations, Paleostinian gunnies jumped out of tunnels and shot at soldiers who returned fire. Two of the gunnies were killed. Another Death Eater died when the explosive vest he was wearing went off, the military said.

In one instance, the Death Eaters were found with tranquilizers and handcuffs, indicating they "intended to abduct Israelis," according to the military.

It was the second day that Paleostinians had used their network of underground tunnels to penetrate Israel in the current round of fighting.

Israeli assaults resume in Gaza neighborhood, two-hour truce collapses
[Al Ahram] Assaults resumed against Gazoo in the neighborhood of Shejaia on Sunday less than an hour after a short-lived "humanitarian truce" was agreed to allow the evacuation of maimed from the area.

Israel had agreed to observe an immediate two-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Gazoo's Shejaiya neighbourhood, halting a blistering bombing campaign in the area.

Israel's military claims its forces were shot at shortly after the two-hour truce, facilitated by the Red Thingy, had begun at 1:30pm (1030 GMT), and that it had resumed combat operations. Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, had no immediate comment yet on Israeli allegations it had breached the ceasefire.
That's because they would have to lie. They did that shortly thereafter, but Al Ahram, at least, was not interested.

Israel army: 13 soldiers killed Sunday in Gaza
[Al Ahram] Thirteen Israeli soldiers were killed in fighting inside Gazoo on Sunday, the army said, in what was the highest number of troops killed in combat since 2006.

"Over the course of the day, 13 soldiers from the IDF's Golani Brigade were killed in combat in the Gazoo Strip," an army statement said.

Their deaths raised to 18 the total number of soldiers killed since Israel began a ground operation in Gazoo late on Thursday, in what was the highest casualty figure since the 2006 Leb war.

Their deaths occurred as troops began an offensive against the Shejaiya neighbourhood between Gazoo City and the Israeli border, which on Sunday claimed 62 Paleostinian lives and maimed more than 250, medics said.

"We know that in battle there are casualties," Israel's Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz said after the news was released.

"The residents of Shejaiya know they have fallen victim to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,," he said.

"We have no intention of giving up our determination."

Several media reports said seven of the soldiers were killed when their armoured personnel carrier (APC) was hit by an anti-tank missile in the early morning.

As troops tried to extract the survivors, three more were killed by gunfire.

In a second attempt to reach the scene, another three soldiers were killed by an anti-tank missile, the reports said.

#3  Americans are famous for finding their way to help the oppressed. A poem from about American led Irish Brigade, circa 1901 or thereabouts. Author long dead and gone.

On the mountainside the battle raged, there was no stop or stay;
Mackin captured Private Burke and ensign Michael Shea, Fitzgerald got Fitzpatrick, Brannigan found O'Rourke;
Finnigan took a man named Fay and a couple of lads from Cork. Sudden they heard McManus shout, "Hands up, I'll run you through,"
He thought it was a Yorkshire Tyke - 'twas Corporal Donaghue!
McGarry took O'Leary, O'Brien got McNamee,
That's how the English fought the Dutch at the Battle of Dundee.

All the while, the US Gov't was selling huge numbers of horses, tack, wagons, and not a few contract teamsters to the British. So much so that it created an actual shortage going into WW1. Some things, they simply never change.

Israel keeps pounding as Gaza's Shejaiya massacre toll reaches 60 Palestinians
[Al Ahram] More than 60 Paleostinians were killed Sunday as Israeli forces pounded northern Gazoo, sending thousands more fleeing in terror in the biggest offensive against the besieged Gazoo Strip in five years.
How many of them belonged to fighting wings of Hamas or others, dead while committing war against Israel?
Sunday's bloody toll prompted urgent efforts by the International Committee of the Red Thingy to broker a temporary ceasefire to allow paramedics to evacuate the dead and maimed in a deal accepted by both sides.

But it lasted less than an hour, as Israel resumed assaults against Gazoo in the neighborhood of Shejaia.

Israel accuses Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, of firing in violation of the agreement, and saying its forces were "responding accordingly."

Inside the ravaged neighbourhood of Shejaiya, there were hellish scenes of carnage and chaos as a convoy of ambulances rushed in to make the most of the calm, an AFP correspondent said.

As the Palastenian corpse count passed 410, UN chief the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
headed to the region to add his weight to truce efforts and Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was to hold talks in Qatar with Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal.

As Israel's blistering offensive on Shejaiya escalates, thousands could be seen fleeing for their lives after heavy shelling left casualties lying in the streets, an AFP correspondent reported.

Footage from the area showed vast clouds of black smoke billowing into the sky as the shelling continued and Gazoo's eastern flank burned.

Ambulances were unable to reach much of the area along the border with Israel because of heavy fire.

But as the ceasefire got under way, a convoy of ambulances entered, with medics seen picking up at least three dead bodies, including that of a man with his intestines hanging out and his head completely destroyed, the correspondent said.

The blackened shells of cars littered the streets along with the burnt-out wreckage of an ambulance, as smoke poured from areas that were still burning.

At least four men carrying machine-guns could be seen among the people evacuating the area, some of them masked, the correspondent said.

Among the dead were women and kiddies, as well as a Paleostinian paramedic and a cameraman who were killed when the ambulance they were in was hit, with the ongoing fire hampering efforts to recover the bodies.

"He wasn't a fighter, he was a fighter for humanity," wailed one relative as the family buried him.

"He was an ambulance worker, did he deserve to die?"

At Gazoo City's Shifa hospital, casualties were being brought in by the minute, some in ambulances, others in cars and trucks.

Among them were many children screaming in agony, some peppered with shrapnel wounds.

"This is the worst I've ever seen it," said Doctor Said Hassan, who has worked at the hospital for eight years.

Fights broke out in the emergency room as hysterical parents banged on the walls in fear and sorrow.

"The shelling was non-stop, it was everywhere," Sabah Mamluk, 40, told AFP.

"We ran into the streets and started to walk. It was terrifying," she said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout Montefiore's foot was still stuck and the hound had completely soaked his uniform with slobber...
Israel said its ground "operation" was to "expand" later Sunday, claiming the ground invasions aims to destroy the network of tunnels used by holy warriors to stage cross-border attacks.

"This evening, the ground phase of Operation Protective Edge expands, as additional forces join the effort to combat terror in the Gazoo Strip and establish a reality in which Israeli residents can live in safety and security," the army said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has put the blame for civilian casualties squarely on Hamas, accusing the group of "using innocent civilians as human shields."

So far, UNRWA has opened 55 of its schools to shelter those fleeing the most heavily bombarded areas, with more than 63,000 people taking refuge in them, the agency said.

Palestine death toll passes 425: Health ministry
[Al Ahram] The Paleostinian corpse count has hit at least 425 since the July 8 start of Israel's military offensive there, with 87 killed on Sunday alone, Paleostinian health officials said.

The vast majority of Sunday's dead were in the Shejaiya neighbourhood between Gazoo City and the Israeli border, with at least 62 people killed there in a blistering bombardment which began overnight, emergency services front man Ashraf al-Qudra said.

At least 250 were maimed in Shejaiya, he said.

Following an urgent appeal from the International Committee of the Red Thingy, both sides agreed to temporarily halt fire in the neighbourhood, ending at 1730 GMT.

As the ceasefire got under way, a convoy of ambulances entered Shejaiya, with medics seen picking up at least three dead bodies, including that of a man with his intestines hanging out and his head destroyed, an AFP correspondent reported.

Al-Qudra said that of the 425 Paleostinians killed since the start of Israel's assault on Gazoo, 112 were minors, 41 women and 25 elderly people.

Hamas military wing claims abducted Israeli soldier
[Al Ahram] The armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas group claimed on Sunday night that it had kidnapped an Israeli soldier, prompting celebrations in the streets of Gaza City.

"The Israeli soldier Shaul Aaron is in the hands of the Qassam Brigades," a spokesman using the nom-de-guerre Abu Obeida said in a televised address.

Thousands Flee Major Battle With Israel In Gaza
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Escalating their ground offensive, Israeli troops backed by tanks and warplanes battled Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, turbans in a crowded neighborhood of Gazoo City early Sunday. The fighting, including heavy Israeli tank fire, killed scores of Paleostinians, forced thousands to flee and damaged or destroyed dozens of homes.
Israel did warn them ahead of time. Some clearly regret their previous choice to ignore that.
Paleostinian health officials reported at least 65 people killed as air and artillery strikes echoed across the city for hours. They put the number of displaced at 35,000, with at least 435 people killed in the nearly two-week conflict.

Israeli military casualties spiked in the fighting, with 13 killed Sunday, raising the total number of dead soldiers to 18. Two civilians also have died in mortar and rocket attacks.

Diplomats' efforts to end the violence continued, as U.N. chief the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
headed to the region to try to revive cease-fire efforts. U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
said he expects to come to the Middle East in coming days and that he support's Egypt's call for an immediate cease-fire, rejected last week by Hamas. The Islamic turbans say they want guarantees that Gazoo's border blockade will be eased before agreeing to stop fighting.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Wanted Suspect Arrested in Tripoli, Prompting Tensions with Army
[An Nahar] Tensions were high in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
following the army's arrest of a wanted suspect overnight, reported Voice of Leb radio (93.3) on Sunday.

It said that tensions mounted after the arrest of Sheikh Hussam al-Sabbagh, who is wanted on terrorism charges, in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood.

His supporters took to the street to protest the detention.

Youth gatherings have been reported near the Harba Mosque and the office of Salafist holy man Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi.

A meeting of Mohammedan scholars, chaired by Rafehi, was held at dawn in order to address the development.

The gatherers condemned Sabbagh's arrest, deeming it as "provocative", reported VDL.

The army confirmed the arrest in a statement later on Sunday, saying that Sabbagh and his lover companion, Mohammed Ali Ismail Ismail, were detained at a checkpoint in the al-Manar area in Tripoli.

Unknown assailants later tossed a hand grenade at an army checkpoint in Tripoli's al-Mankoubin area, it added.

Known as Abu Hassan, Sabbagh holds Lebanese and Australian citizenships and is wanted by authorities in both countries for belonging to al-Qaeda, most notably the Fatah al-Islam
A Syrian-incubated al-Qaeda work-alike that they think can be turned off if no longer needed to keep the Lebanon pot stirred.
group, reported MTV.

It described Sabbagh as one of the most wanted suspects in Leb and one of the most dangerous men in the country.

The suspect initially joined the ranks of the Baath Party in Iraq before joining al-Jamaa al-Islamiya
...The Islamic Group. Sunni Islamist alignment in Lebanon. The group was founded in 1952 as the Leb branch of the Moslem Brüderbund. Its current leader is Faisal Mawlawi. The party has a military wing known as the al-Fajr Forces. Currently they have 1 seat in the Lebanese Parliament...
group.

Influenced by al-Qaeda's mentality during the United States' invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, he joined the group in fighting U.S. troops in the country.

He also sent members of al-Qaeda through Leb and Syria to fight in Iraq against invading U.S. troops in 2003, added MTV.

He then disappeared off the scene for several years until the eruption of the Syrian conflict in 2011.

He became noticed in Leb during May 2013 following the arrest of Islamist Shadi al-Mawlawi.

was suspected by police of providing boom belts to two jacket wallahs who blew themselves up when police raided their Beirut hotel on June 25.

when police moved to arrest him but he resisted, the security official said.

"There was an exchange of gunfire that lasted four hours during which the suspect hurled grenades at the police," the official said.

"As members of the security forces tried to enter the apartment, he was killed by one of the grenades he was handling."

Two coppers were maimed in the exchange of gunfire.

Officers recovered an boom belt from the suspect's apartment, the official added.

'Islamic State' Kills 270 in Syria Gas Field Takeover
They do like going in for bodies in large numbers, these formerly-known-as-Al-Qaeda-in-Iraq chappies.
[VOA News] Syrian activists said government forces have launched a counterattack to recapture a gas field seized by Islamic Lion of Islams, as the corpse count from three days of fighting rose to 310.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Saturday the fighting in the Shaer gas field in the central province of Homs is among the deadliest between government forces and the group calling itself the Islamic State, since the Syrian uprising began more than three years ago.

The Islamic State captured the Syrian gas field on Thursday. Government forces launched an attack late Friday on the Shaer field and by Saturday had regained parts of it.

The observatory said the murderous Moslems have killed and executed 270 soldiers, guards and staff during the assault.

They added that at least 40 murderous Moslems had been killed and around 30 people managed to escape to a nearby gas field in central Syria. It has not been possible to immediately verify the report.
