[Tolo News] Kunar Police Chief, Abdul Habib Sayedkhili, said that Pak military have continued shelling on Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
prior to Eid and throughout the holiday, launching more than 100 missiles onto Afghan soil.

He says that so far around 115 missiles have landed in the districts of Dangam, Shegal and Marawara of Kunar province since the shelling began last week.

According to Sayedkhili, as a result of the assault one child was killed and serious damages have been brought to the residents of the districts.

"A 12-year-old boy was killed and severe damages have been posed on the people of Kunar," he told TOLOnews.

He added that Pak soldiers have crossed the Durand Line and are 12 kilometers into Afghanistan where they have established check posts.

The cross-border shelling from Pakistain and reported occasional Afghan retaliation in the past few years have dramatically increased diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

the deputy front man for the MoI did not give an exact number of Taliban Lions of Islam involved in Tuesday's attack, he emphasized that the Afghan cops are fully capable of dealing with such attacks.

Almost a month ago, more than 800 Taliban Lions of Islam attacked Sangin and took control of the area for more than a week. The clash ended when an increase of troops were deployed in efforts to clear the district of krazed killers.

Two explosions precede shutdown at Zawia power station
[Libya Herald] Across Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
during the night two violent kabooms were heard just before General Electricity Company of Libya's (GECOL) station west of Zawia temporarily shutdown.

"There was a loud kaboom around 2 am, followed soon after by another. Then the power went out,"one resident of Janzour told the Libya Herald. Power was knocked out from Tajoura, east of Tripoli, to Zuwara, 130 km away, from around 2 am until just after dawn this morning.

The Ministry of Oil and Gas, on its social media site, said simply that there was a "problem" at the Zawia power station that led to a complete shut down. Repairs were made and power returned after about five hours. It did not explain the sound of the kaboom.

Elsewhere, frustrations continue to mount about prolonged power outages. In Ain Zara today, residents blockaded streets with burning tyres because they had been without power for 24 hours.

Unarmed crowd forces Ansar out of Benghazi hospital
[Libya Herald] An angry civilian crowd this evening ignored warning shots from Ansar Al Sharia Lions of Islam and seized control of Benghazi's Jalaa hospital which had been in the hands of forces of Evil since the end of June.

As several hundred predominantly young demonstrators approached the hospital Ansar guards fired first into the ground in front of them and then into the air. A witness told the Libya Herald that the shooting only appeared to enrage the crowd which continued to advance on the hospital's main gate.

Ansar militiamen, it is unclear how many, were seen to withdraw towards neighbouring buildings while the triumphant young people tore down the Islamists' black banner from above the gate and replaced it with the Libyan flag.

There was no attempt by the Lions of Islam to regain their lost positions. The crowd heaved masonry and burning tyres into the roadway. The protest had started opposite the Tibesti Hotel, the future home of the new House of Representatives, which had been damaged by Ansar Al Sharia forces of Evil yesterday.

A crowd, which was originally no more than 50-strong, shouted slogans denouncing terrorism and calling for the army and the police to act. It later moved off along Jamal Abd Nasr Street and headed towards the Jalaa hospital, growing in size as it went.

The apparent ease with which the hospital appears to have been wrested, if even temporarily, from Ansar's hands by unarmed demonstrators is in stark contrast to the resistance that the Islamists put up last month. On 14 July Saiqa special forces from Operation Dignity tried to drive them out. The attempt failed leaving seven dead and 35 injured.

Late this evening many of the demonstrators were still at the hospital. It was unclear if Operation Dignity forces were about to capitalise on Ansar's evacuation and themselves move in. Attempts to contact Dignity spokesmen were unsuccessful. A manager the hospital that the management had asked all staff to report as soon as possible.

Calls are now going out on social media for this Friday to be a day of mass protest under the slogan "Benghazi Friday: We will not bow".

75 bodies discovered in Benghazi
[ARABNEWS] At least 75 bodies, mostly soldiers, have been found in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi after two days of fighting in which fighters and allied Death Eaters overran an army base, the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy and medical sources said.

The Red Islamic Thingy found more than 50 bodies inside the base, which special forces abandoned on Tuesday. "We are trying to get them out of the base," said Mohammed Al-Misrati, from the Red Islamic Thingy.

Sources in the city's hospitals said they had received at least 25 other bodies.

The leader of the Moslem Brüderbund's political arm in Libya says an attack by militias on the capital's airport is a "legitimate" response to an offensive by a renegade general.

The comments by Mohammed Sawan to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Wednesday were a strong show of support for militias trying to wrest control of the airport from a rival militia.

Sawan said the assault was in response to a months-long offensive by Gen. Khalifa Hifter, who has being trying to crush militias in Libya, mainly in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Firefighters were battling to douse a huge blaze at a petrol depot near the airport in the Libyan capital for the fourth day on Wednesday, the Oil Ministry said.

The latest efforts to contain the inferno came a day after the government said the situation was "out of control."

The fire erupted on Sunday when a rocket hit a tank containing more than six million liters of fuel as rival militias battled for control of the city's airport.

"The operations to put out the fire on the hydrocarbon reservoirs ... are continuing as necessary," senior ministry official Samir Kamal said, without giving further details.

The ministry appealed late on Tuesday to private and public companies that own water trucks to gather their vehicles on Wednesday morning near the depot to provide firefighters with water.

Emergency services rapidly found themselves running low on water as they fought the blaze, in addition to disruption caused by nearby fighting between militias. The huge fuel tanks were still burning on Wednesday, after being hit by rockets fired in festivities along Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's airport road.

More than 90 million liters of fuel are stored in the facility, which also houses a natural gas reservoir.

3 Militants Reported Killed In Egypt Car Explosion
[IsraelTimes] Three suspected murderous Moslems died Wednesday when a bomb they were carrying in their car apparently went off by accident in a town south of Cairo, Egypt's official news agency reported.

The kaboom took place in the early morning hours in the town of el-Saf in Giza province, said MENA. The report quoted unnamed security officials as saying the suspects were carrying an bomb, which was likely detonated by mistake. MENA gave no further details.

Egypt has battled an Islamic insurgency for the past three years that dramatically escalated after the military's ouster last July of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and its subsequent crackdown on his Moslem Brüderbund supporters.

An al-Qaeda-inspired group called Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis
...Supporters of Jerusalem, the current pen name of al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula...
has grabbed credit for a series of kabooms and suicide kabooms over the past year.

The group has said in its statements posted on Death Eater websites that it is avenging the killing of Islamist supporters of Morsi at the hands of Egyptian security forces. Morsi's supporters have been staging mostly small, near-daily demonstrations against his ouster and the authorities' heavy crackdown on the Brotherhood.

The Egyptian military has launched a sweeping offensive in the northern region of the Sinai Peninsula, which is a stronghold of Death Eater groups, killing and capturing dozens of suspected Death Eaters.

Africa Subsaharan
Female Bomber Kills 6 in Nigeria, 10-Year-Old with Explosives Held
[AnNahar] A female jacket wallah killed six people at a college campus in Nigeria's Kano city on Wednesday, the fourth time Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamists were suspected of using a female attacker in as many days.

The latest violence came as the government announced the arrest of a 10-year-old girl with explosives strapped to her chest in a neighboring area.

Boko Haram is blamed for killing more than 10,000 people since 2009 and their extreme tactics have been denounced worldwide, including on some jihadi websites.

But what appears to be a new tactic of deploying young women and girls as bombers will spur further outrage, as Nigeria seems unable to contain the violence.

At about 2:30 pm (1330 GMT) on Wednesday, an assailant blew herself up at a noticeboard on the campus of the Kano Polytechnic College, where students had crammed to check their assignments for a mandatory youth civil service program.

Witness Isyaku Adamu said the kaboom came from within the crush of students and left blood splattered on the ground, as soldiers and police scrambled to secure the area.

Government front man Mike Omeri put the casualties at six dead and six maimed and confirmed that a female, whose age was not immediately known, was responsible for the bloodshed.

It was the fourth attack by a female bomber in Nigeria's second city since the weekend.

On Sunday, a young woman injured five coppers as she blew herself up at a another campus in the city.

The next day, two young women believed to be in their late teens or early 20s separately attacked a petrol station and a shopping center, suicide kabooms that killed at least three people and injured 13 others.

Omeri said security forces on Tuesday stopped a car in Kano's neighboring state of Katsina and locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
three suspected Boko Haram members.

The group included one male and two girls, aged 18 and 10.

The older two tried to flee, according to Omeri's statement.

The "10-year-old ... was discovered to have been strapped with an boom belt," he said.

The chilling trend of deploying young women and girls as bombers comes three-and-half months after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the remote town of Chibok in the northeast.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau boasted about the mass abductions in a video during which he threatened to sell the girls as slaves.

The Chibok abductions prompted a social media campaign that went viral and drew unprecedented global attention to Boko Haram's hard boy uprising, which the group says is aimed at creating a strict Islamic state in the mainly Moslem north.

In the weeks following the kidnappings, some prominent jihadi websites had posts condemning the Nigerian group's extreme tactics.

Nigeria has repeatedly insisted that it knows where the girls are, while President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
and top military officials have suggested they will be brought home safely soon.

But little progress has been made in securing their release while the violence appears to be escalating across the north and center of the country.

More than 2,000 civilians have been killed this year, making the first half of 2014 one of the deadliest stretches of the insurgency.

Attacks had been concentrated in the remote northeast, Boko Haram's stronghold, but waves of strikes since April in major cities including the capital Abuja have underscored the grave threat the Islamists pose to Nigeria, Africa's most populous country and top oil producer.

Six women injured in acid attack in Balochistan's Pishin district
[DAWN] QUETTA: Six women were maimed in an acid attack in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
's Pishin district, a senior administration officer said.

Deputy Commissioner Pishin Bashir Bazai told Dawn that six women were maimed in the attack as a result of a family dispute in Tang area of the district.

"Four men sprayed acid on women inside the house," he said.

"There were no men inside the house when the culprits' relatives targeted women," Bazai said.

The attackers escaped unhurt after launching the attack.

Bazai said that the women were discharged from hospital after being given first aid treatment since their condition was not serious.

Levies personnel conducted raids in different parts of Pishin and Killa Abdullah but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.

This incident comes a week after two acid attacks in Quetta and Mastung cities.

Six women were maimed in the aforesaid attacks.

Police suspected faceless myrmidons to be behind those attacks.

FO registers protest over clash on Pak-Afghan border
[DAWN] Pakistain summoned a senior Afghan diplomat on Wednesday and registered a protest over a skirmish during which Pak security forces foiled a krazed killer attack on a checkpost on the Pak-Afghan border.

Military sources were quoted as saying that six attackers were killed and nine maimed during a cross-border krazed killer assault on a checkpost on the Pak-Afghan border in Lower Dir region which was repulsed by Pakistain's security forces late on Tuesday.

The officials, who requested anonymity, also said security along the Pakistain-Afghan border was beefed up to foil such attacks from Afghan territory.

Pakistain's Foreign Office in Islamabad summoned the Afghan charge d' affaires and lodged a strong protest with Afghanistan over the cross-border attack.

A Foreign Office statement said that Pakistain would be taking up the matter with the Afghan Government at a higher level in the broader context of enhancing security along the Pak-Afghan border.

Between 70-80 suspected bully boyz were involved in the cross-border attack on Pakistain military post in Upper Dir (between Tripaman and Inkal Sar) on Tuesday night, according to the statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement added that seven attackers were killed and nine injured as the assault was successfully repulsed by Pakistain's military.

The details could not be independently verified as the access of media is severely restricted in the region.

Pakistain once again urged Afghanistan to take effective steps to stop the use of its territory for repeated cross-border fire and physical attacks by terrorists.

The Foreign Office statement said the country emphasised on the extension of all possible cooperation from the Afghan side and measures taken by Afghanistan to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries on its territory, at a time when Pakistain was undertaking a monumental effort against faceless myrmidons and their hideouts through the launch of operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
.

Earlier in June this year the military launched a full-scale operation against Talibs in North Wazoo tribal region, named as Zarb-e-Azb, following a brazen Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP)-claimed attack on Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's International Airport and failure of peace talks between government and Talibam nominated negotiators.

Pakistain has repeatedly asked Afghan authorities not to bully boyz fleeing from North Waziristan tribal region and to destroy krazed killer hideouts on its territory.

Two Shia areas attacked in Baghdad, 15 killed
[Iran Press TV] Car bombings on the main streets of two Shia neighborhoods of Baghdad have left at least 15 people dead and more than 40 others injured.

Iraqi Police and medical sources said the kabooms took place in the capital's large northern neighborhood of Sadr City and the al-Amin neighborhood, further east, almost simultaneously on Wednesday.

At around 7:00 p.m. (1600 GMT), a blast destroyed a gas station in Sadr City as cars were waiting to fill up, witnesses said.

According to hospital and police sources, at least nine people were killed in the kaboom.

"There were maimed people shouting and bodies on the ground," said a witness.

The other deadly blast which occurred five minutes earlier killed six people in al-Amin.

"A boom-mobile went kaboom! at 6:55 p.m. on the main street in the Al-Amin area," a police colonel said on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi Shiite militia executes, hangs 15 by electricity poles
[ARABNEWS] Shiite militia forces executed 15 Sunnis and then hung them by electricity poles in a public square in a town northeast of Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.

A police officer at the scene in Baquba, a mixed Sunni and Shiite town 65 km from Baghdad, said he believed the action was designed to keep Sunnis from supporting the Islamic State.

The victims, who were kidnapped over the last week, were shot in their heads and chests and then hung up by cables.

"The militia forces are preventing the medical crew from bringing down the bodies hanging from the electricity poles," he told Rooters.

"They are following a new tactic of keeping bodies hanging for a longer time to deter the Sunni population from backing the Islamic State. We asked them to let us evacuate the bodies but they refused."

The US-funded and trained Iraqi Army unraveled in the face of the Islamic State's sweep through the north and sectarian violence has increased since then.

Critics say Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki's authoritarian and sectarian rule have alienated Sunnis, prompting some to find common cause with the group, which has blown up Shiite shrines and mosques.

IDF to enlist 16,000 more reservists as Israel presses on with Gaza operation
The IDF was permitted to mobilize 16,000 additional reserve forces as the Israel pushed forward with its campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

The order was announced along with early-morning rocket fire Thursday from Gaza on southern Israel.

On Wednesday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon spoke by phone with his American counterpart Chuck Hagel, who called for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza that would lead to a permanent end in fighting along with the disarmament of Hamas.

Hagel's call came amid US concern over the rising number of deaths on both sides of the conflict, said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

Gaza tension: Israelis leave Maldives resort
[ARABNEWS] Israeli holiday makers were evacuated from their Maldivian resort after one of them tore up an anti-Israeli placard equating the Nazi Swastika to the Israeli flag, officials said Wednesday.

Some 30 Israeli surfers were moved out to safety from Thulusdhoo island, near the capital island Male, as residents of the overwhelmingly Sunni archipelago protested the pulling down of anti-Israeli placards.

Tensions rose after an Israeli man tore down the placard daubed with a Swastika which had been pinned to a coconut tree.

Minister at the President's Office, Mohammed Shareef, said they evacuated the tourists for their own safety.

"There could have been an ugly incident and that is why the tourists were evacuated from the resort," Shareef told AFP by phone.

"We have not banned them, but Israeli tourists must remember that they are visiting a 100 percent Mohammedan country," Shareef said. "We unequivocally and unconditionally support the Paleostinian cause."

He said the Maldives had also put in place measures to express their opposition to Israel.

The Maldives this week began implementing a ban on Israeli-made goods and also abrogated three cooperation agreements on health, tourism and education.

MASSIVE PALESTINIAN SNEAK ATTACK Against Jewish State Planned For 12 Years
[GatewayPundit] Hamas planned to use the tunnels it dug from Gaza to Israel to execute a massive attack on southern Israel, an Israeli newspaper reported, citing unnamed Israeli security sources.

Under the plan detailed Friday by the Hebrew-language Maariv daily, Hamas planned to send terrorists through the more than 30 tunnels uncovered by Israeli troops and into six southern Israeli communities on Rosh Hashanah in September of this year.

The plan was to kill and kidnap as many Israelis as possible, according to the report.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly told the security Cabinet about the discovered plot during late last week.
They were planning on flooding the zone. Mr. Netanyahu is seriously correct in insisting upon the destruction of the tunnels.

#8  re: #6 something suspicious about this

The report says Bibi N. informed the security cabinet about the plan last week.

My suspicion is that he and his inner circle knew about the Hamas plan for some time and began taking preemptive actions against the tunnels before they became a problem.

Hamas, not looking kindly at this action, began launching the rockets, thus bringing us to where we are today.

Just my 2-cents.

I wonder about that too. Maybe that kidnapping wasn't planned or else things just spun out of control after the kidnapping. Also possible that some of the Gazooks with rockets didn't get the memo. Well, you know about the best laid plans of mice and men especially in Gaza.

#12  3 murder/kidnappings likely a trial attack and Israel starts getting a clue about the tunnels so Hamas begins a rocket attack early.

Best laid plans and all that jazz.
Posted by: 3dc || 07/31/2014 13:37 Comments || Top||

#13  My guess is that the offensive start when it did because of the PA-Hamas reconciliation talks. They had agreed to stop murdering each other, recall, and form a single oppressive govt. That sort of thing didn't go over with one faction or the other, probably Islamic Jihad. They were the ones who started with the rocketry if I recall correctly. They usually play the loose cannon when Hamas is trying to appear reasonable. Hamas couldn't control it because the order came from either Teheran or Beirut.

The order probably said "Just keep shooting until they do something," thinking the result would be another week or two Gaza op with widespread support among Arab govts, the usual atrocity claims, and a UNSC-imposed ceasefire.

Things aren't like they were last time. Egypt is in an anti-Moslem Brüderbund frame of mind and Ansar Beit al-Maqdisi and similar salafist groups in Sinai kind of rub their faces in the "terrorism is terrorism" thing. Obama is a cipher and Kerry a nitwit. They've alienated Netanyahu and U.S.-Israeli relations are the worst they've ever been. Therefore the U.S. can't bully Tel Aviv into a stupid ceasefire.

There's also the fact that they pounded Hezbollah to paste in 2006 (remember Green Helmet Guy?) and the Hezbullies have been crowing about their Famous Victory ever since. Hamas tried the same "declare victory in the rubble" routine the last time the IDF came knocking. Remember they were going to "destroy Hamas?" This time there's no such claim. They intend to destroy the tunnel infrastructure.

The final thing is that the Hamas atrocity claims have also worn thin. You can't replay the same movie over and over every few years and expect the public to continue showing up and believing in it. The revelations about command centers under hospitals and rockets stored in schools are a little too putrid for all but the True Believer to buy them.

Southeast Asia
Communist militants release four kidnapped cops
Four Philippine policemen kidnapped by communist militants in Surigao del Norte early this month were freed yesterday afternoon.

Army spokesman Capt. Alberto Caber said the four policemen were released in an undisclosed location in Agusan del Norte. He said, "The four policemen will undergo medical check-up and stress debriefing."

The policemen were taken captive by communist New People's Army (NPA) militants during a raid on a police station in Alegria, Surigao del Norte last July 10. Their release came after the military and communist militants declared a five-day ceasefire in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte in the effort to facilitate the release.

Caber said the ceasefire temporarily prevents the military from conducting deliberate offensive operations against the NPA.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hizbullah Top Official, Three Fighters Die in Qalamoun Clashes
[AnNahar] A high-ranking Hizbullah

official was killed on Monday in the ongoing battles between the party's fighters and Syrian opposition Death Eaters in Syria's al-Qalamoun region, which is strategically located on the border with Leb.

The festivities also took the lives of three other Hizbullah fighters.

These deaths were confirmed by websites close to Syria's opposition and others to Hizbullah.

They identified the slain party official as Ibrahim al-Hajj, a.k.a. Abou Mohammed Salman, and revealed that he hailed from the Bekaa town of Qalya but resided in Mashghara.

"With pride the Islamic resistance in Hizbullah and the Bekaa town of Qalya announce the death of a new heroic martyr Hajj Ibrahim al-Hajj, al-Hajj Salman, who died while performing his holy jihadi duty through resisting against Takfiri

and Wahhabi mercenaries," a post published on South Leb website said on Monday.

Many Hizbullah fighters have recently died in the renewed festivities against Syrian rebels on several fighting fronts in al-Qalamoun villages.
Meanwhile,

websites close to the Syrian opposition claimed that al-Hajj was close to Hizbullah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah

And on Tuesday, South Leb announced the death of three fighters "who died performing their jihadi duty."

They are Hussein Bassam Shouqair from the southern town of Baraachit, Mahmoud Riyad Monzer from the Bekaa's Shmestar and Ali Moussa Moussa from Sohmor, also in the Bekaa, said the website.

The same source on Monday revealed also the death of Ahmed Ibrahim Abdul Sater, who hails from the Bekaa village of Iaat.

Many Hizbullah fighters have recently died in the renewed festivities against Syrian rebels on several fighting fronts in al-Qalamoun villages, as the Syrian regime claims that it is bombing the Arsal plains "to prevent terrorists' infiltration."

Earlier in July, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least seven Hizbullah members were killed and 31 others were maimed in the ongoing border festivities.

Giving a higher corpse count of eight Hizbullah fighters killed, a maimed member of the party told Agence La Belle France Presse on condition of anonymity: "The battle was very fierce, and at very close quarters."

The long and mostly non-existent border region is often used by smugglers, refugees and fighters.

In April, Syrian forces backed by allied fighters from Hizbullah retook control of most of the Qalamoun region.

But Syrian activists say hundreds of opposition fighters have taken refuge in the caves and hills in the border area, using it as a rear base from which to launch attacks inside Syria.

Last month, Lebanese army forces carried out raids in the area targeting Death Eaters with ties to "terrorist groups", an army statement said at the time.

Syrian Jets Raid Arsal Plains, Four Wounded
[AnNahar] Four Syrian nationals were maimed on Tuesday afternoon in Syrian raids on the Arsal plains in the Bekaa.

LBCI television said that four Syrians were maimed when Syria's jets raided the house of mayor Ali Melhem al-Hujairi in Arsal's Wadi Ajram region.

LBCI reported on Friday that a Syrian MiG aircraft fired three rockets at Arsal's al-Rahweh region, while the state-run National News Agency said Syrian military aircraft bombed the Wadi al-Zamarani, al-Ajram and al-Rahweh regions in the same border area.

The NNA noted then that the jets targeted a convoy of gunnies in the region.

Tension has recently resurfaced on the Lebanese-Syrian border near the Arsal plains, where festivities are ongoing between Hizbullah

Army Arrests Syrians Linked to Nusra Front
[AnNahar] The Lebanese army detained overnight a number of Syrian nationals suspected of having links with an an offshoot of al-Qaeda, the military and the state-run National News Agency said Wednesday.

The army said in a communique that it seized 8 Syrians in the eastern border town of Arsal for illegal entry. Some of them were driving unregistered cars and cycle of violences and are suspected of belonging to terrorist organizations, it added.

According to NNA, an army unit apprehended seven Syrians in Arsal.

They are suspected of having links to the al-Qaeda-inspired al-Nusra Front, the agency said.

The al-Nusra Front, completely unknown before the rebellion in Syria that began two years ago, has been a rebel standard-bearer since mid-2012 when it became the spearhead of the insurgency ahead of the Free Syrian Army

The town has seen a massive influx of refugees as a result of the heavy fighting in Qalamoun.
