Afghanistan
Jalaluddin Haqqani is dead, say Taliban sources
[DAWN] Chief of the Haqqani bad boy network and father of Sirajuddin Haqqani, Jaluluddin Haqqani, died almost a year ago of natural causes and was buried in Afghan province of Khost
...which coincidentally borders North Wazoo and Kurram Agency...
, according to reliable sources among the Afghan Taliban.
Anybody else peg out that we should know about?
While news of Jalaluddin Haqqani's death had been making rounds for almost a month now, multiple credible sources in Taliban confirmed today that he had died of illness almost a year ago.

The bad boy group has not officially given out a statement over Haqqani's demise yet.

Sources, however, say Sirajudin Haqqani, Jalaluddin's son, has been running the bad boy network for over a year now, ever since his father's illness.

News of Jalaluddin's death comes a mere two days after the announced death of Afghan Taliban's supreme leader, Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
The news of Mullah Omar's death was first leaked through unnamed sources in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
on Wednesday and the Afghan intelligence and government soon after followed in with a confirmation.

Mujahideen claims to push back IS from high ground behind Derna
[Libya Herald] After three days of bitter fighting, the Shoura Council of Mujahideen in Derna claims to have forced Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) gunnies to pull back from the winding mountain road south of the town. The location, known as Kurfat Sebaa or seven curves, referring to the seven hair-pin bends on the road, leads to Fataiah, the area mainly full of farms still which is controlled by IS.

Kurfat Sebaa was used by IS to target Derna's residential Shiha and Bab Torbuk districts. In the past two days, as many as ten locals are said to have been injured as a result of IS firing. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the two districts are now safe, the Mujahideen say.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
they admit the advances have come a heavy price. In the three days of fighting in what is being called the Battle of Nahruwan, they lost at least 13 men with another 48 maimed, but the number of dead is said to be set to rise. The figures for yesterday and today have not been announced.

The fight in the larger Fataiah area is expected to be even more intense.

IS does not disclose casualty figures.

Seven dead, 18 missing in Daesh attack on army
[Libya Herald] It now appears that at least seven soldiers were killed and 18 were captured yesterday in a Daesh assault on a control post on the road to Tobruk, some 100 kilometres to the east of Ajdabya.

Reports unconfirmed by the Libya army say that five members of the 21 Border Guard Battalion escaped the attack on the check point.

Five soldiers died in the initial attack and thereafter two members of an unnamed unit sent to relieve the position were also killed.

The B11 highway between Ajdabiya and Tobruk, which cuts out the long and tortuous coastal road, has in the past been notorious for the kidnapping of lory drivers particularly Egyptians. There are roads and tracks leading south from Derna through the Jebel Al Akhdar to the highway.

Daesh fighters have been expelled from both Derna and Ajdabiya but have today been counterattacking in Derna, once their heartland. There has been speculation that the deadly assault on the army checkpoint was an attempt to cut the highway and block reinforcements coming from Tobruk to relieve Ajdabiya, where a Daech counter-attack has long been expected. However the gunnies are less well placed to hold off the army and survive air strikes, than they are in Benghazi. In that city, the seemingly interminable fighting as seen a few well-placed marksmen hold up advances for weeks on end.

Fighting continues in Kufra as Tebus start to blame government
[Libya Herald] Communal festivities in the southeastern oasis of Kufra have now continued for just over a week, with the government and the Libyan National Army (LNA) still unable to control the conflict.

Tebu-Zwai tit-for-tat killings over the last month once again went kaboom! into bloody armed festivities between the two tribes on Friday last week. In the past couple of says, some 15 people are said to have ben killed.

Despite the Tebu's allegiance to the Beida government and with the General Khalifa Hafter, the National Tebu Assembly (NTA) is now openly resentful of their attitudes to events in the town. The chairman of the National Tebu Assembly (NTA), Adem Rami Karki, has accused the government of ignoring the deadly festivities.

"The silence in the part of the government is a clear indication of negligence. That means it is either very weak and cannot deal with the problem or is itself part of the problem by deliberately doing nothing," Karki told the Libya Herald.

In fact, the Thinni government has called for a ceasefire.

"The fighting factions in Kufra must stop the fighting immediately," a government statement yesterday read, urging elders and "people of good faith" to intervene and stop the bloodshed.

"A ceasefire must be coordinated with Kufra's military commander Al-Mabrouk Al-Guzwey," it added.

Following a failed mediation attempt by the elders of the Magharba tribe two months ago, the head of Libya's reconciliation committee, Mohammed Al-Mubasher, together with Zintani and Magharba elders have been trying to make their way to Kufra for the past five days to restart negotiations. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
with almost no electricity, the small airport is now closed. Many other supplies are also no longer available in the town.

The two main groups in the divided town has also taken opposing political views, which are seen as having re-ignited violence in the town.

The minority Tebus have supported General Khalifa Hafter until now, but say they they beginning to lose confidence in the Beida government, the House of Representatives in Tobruk and the general.

10 Killed in Boko Haram Attack in Nigeria Village
[AnNahar] At least 10 people were killed when Boko Haram Islamist gunmen raided a village in Nigeria's northeastern Yobe state in a revenge attack against local vigilantes, an official said Friday.

Some 32 gunmen on motorcycles raided the village of Kukuwa-Gari at around 10:30 pm (2130 GMT) on Wednesday, killing 10 people including two women, said Baba Nuhu, a member of the local government council.

"They burnt more than half of the village, including food silos and livestock on which the people depend for their livelihood," Nuhu said.

"The attack came two ‎days after two Boko Haram members who came into the village were identified by residents and mobbed to death," Nuhu said, adding that "the attack was obviously in reprisal" over their killing.

News of the attack was slow to emerge because the insurgents have destroyed telecom masts since the insurgency began in 2009.

‎The Gujba area of Yobe state, where Kukuwa-Gari village is located, has been hard hit by Boko Haram violence in the past but has seen relative calm since troops reclaimed it in March.

In September 2013 scores of students of an agricultural college in the area were massacred as they slept in their dormitories.

In February last year dozens of students of a boarding secondary school in the main town of Buni Yadi were also killed in a gun attack on their hostels.

Boko Haram claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Over 100 militants killed in anti-Boko Haram operation: Chad army
[INDIANEXPRESS] At least 100 jihadist fighters have been killed in an operation against Boko Haram Islamists holed up on the islands of Lake Chad, the Chadian army said in a statement today.

“117 terrorists have been killed, two Chadian soldiers died and two others were wounded” in the operation against the Nigeria-based movement, which began two weeks ago, army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermendoa Agouna said.

“For two weeks, Boko Haram terrorists have been trying to infiltrate our islands on Lake Chad to varry out attacks on peaceful citizens,” Azem said, adding that military operations were ongoing.

Lake Chad is a strategic region where the borders of Chad and northeast Nigeria converge with those of Cameroon and Niger, further north.

Boko Haram has carried out raids and suicide bombings in all four countries, which have formed a military alliance along with Benin to tackle the movement.

“Our armed forces and security forces have launched a vast offensive to dig out and neutralise these terrorists on these islands,” Azem said.

No immediate confirmation of the death toll could be had from independent sources.

“Several boats have been destroyed and several weapons of different calibres have been recovered,” added the colonel, who specified that the operation had notably targeted the island villages of Koungya, Merikouta, Choua and Blarigui.

“The sweep continues and the definitive toll will be released later,” the spokesman said.

About 1,000 Chadian soldiers have been deployed in the area of Lake Chad “to occupy all the islands and neutralise Boko Haram”, a security source said.

Chad’s government urged local villagers to leave before the offensive started.

Yemen crisis: Exiled PM Khaled Bahah, officials return to Aden to lead restoration
[ABC.NET.AU] Yemeni prime minister Khaled Bahah has returned to Aden from Saudi exile, two weeks after loyalist forces ousted Iranian catspaws from the city, an airport source said.

He was followed by several more officials, whose task will be to restore normality and public services to a city battered by four months of ferocious combat.

Mr Bahah, who is also vice president of the internationally recognised government, fled into exile with president Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and the rest of his team earlier this year when the rebels entered Aden, their last refuge.

'Al-Qaeda' suicide bombing kills nine in Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A jacket wallah rammed an explosives-packed car into a Yemeni army checkpoint Friday, killing nine soldiers, a military source said, blaming Al-Qaeda for the attack.

Elsewhere, Riyadh said four Saudi security personnel were killed in cross-border rocket fire and shelling, while Yemeni sources said nine rebels were killed in festivities with pro-government forces in Dhaleh province.

The suicide kaboom took place near the city of Qoton in southeastern Yemen's vast desert province of Hadramawt, where Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP) operates.

The source said the dead soldiers were members of the army's First Division, loyal to exiled President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi.

Hadi was forced out of the country earlier this year after Shiite Houthis seized the capital and large chunks of Yemen.

Separately, the source said AQAP murderous Moslems flogged eight people in the Hadramawt historic provincial capital of Mukalla, a port city of more than 200,000 people that they control.

Charged with offences including adultery and drug and alcohol use, the eight received between 80 and 100 lashes each in a punishment carried out in a public square before hundreds of witnesses.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
The Yemeni army and the popular committees also managed to kill 4 Saudi soldiers and injure 8 others after targeting their sites and patrols in Assir and Jizan.

Slain militant leader's son identified in Apex Mine attack
[SunStar] A Philippine army official said on Friday that Ryan Pitao, son of the recently slain New People's Army leader Leoncio Pitao, alias Kumander Parago, was behind a recent attack on Apex Mining Company in Compostela Valley province last July 26.

Military spokesman Alex Cabales said that the Maco Philippine National Police (PNP) identified Ryan Pitao during the attack. He said, "Ryan (Pitao) orchestrated the attack in the mining company. The local PNP will file charges against him but the final details are not yet available."

Cabales said, "Prior to the incident, our intelligence group received a report on the presence of Ryan Pitao and their target which is the mining company. Although we were notified of their operation, our military units failed to cover the whole area of the mining company because it's so wide."

Cabales said the younger Pitao's involvement in the recent attacks was intended to build credibility after his father death in an encounter with the Task Force Minion last June 28 in Paquibato District.

Cabales said Ryan is believed to be under the Pulang Bagani Command-3 operating in Pantukan, Maco, and Mabini. He said, "I think the deployment of Ryan was ordered by the Sub-Regional Committee 2. But the public should not worry as pursuit operations have been intensified against the NPA rebels."

An improvised explosive device that exploded in the same province was also carried out by the same NPA militants.

18 volunteers hurt in attack on Thai defense outpost
[Bangkok Post] Eighteen defense volunteers were wounded – six seriously – in attacks on their village outpost in Yala province early Friday.

The heavily-armed attackers sprayed bullets at the volunteer outpost in Yaha district. Then the attackers threw Molotov cocktails onto the roof, setting it on fire. Some volunteers returned fire while others tried to combat the blaze. Both sides exchanged the gunfire for more than a half-hour. Several volunteers were wounded and ran from the fire-gutted outpost.

Shortly thereafter, some assailants entered the outpost to steal weapons. After being alerted, police, soldiers and rescue workers rushed to the fort, but were obstructed by a power pole toppled and spikes scattered across the road near from the clash.

The outpost was damaged by fire, its walls peppered with bullet holes. Hundreds of spent assault-rifle cartridges were scattered about the scene. A total of 18 volunteers were hurt.
An Nahar adds some background:
"30-40 suspects attacked a base in Yaha district at around 1 am... they fired grenade launchers first, then M16 machine guns. It lasted for around 30 minutes," Tanongsak Wangsupha, police commander of Yala, one of Thailand's four southernmost states which have been roiled by the decade-long war.

"The rebels want to re-assert their power as now villagers are co-operating with state authorities," he said, adding the security volunteers were Muslim.

The simmering conflict pits shadowy Malay Muslim rebels against security forces from Thailand, which annexed the region more than a century ago.

More than 6,400 people have been killed since 2004, the majority Buddhist and Muslim civilians targeted for their perceived support for the Thai state.

Rebels have said they want a level of autonomy for the region, which borders Malaysia, accusing Thailand of widespread rights abuses -- including extrajudicial killings -- and railroading the distinct local culture with forced assimilation schemes.

Tens of thousands of soldiers, police and paramilitaries enforce security across the impoverished South.

Thailand also pays and arms thousands of village volunteers to provide their own security, especially in remote Muslim areas.

Last year the military government said it had distributed 2,700 assault rifles to volunteers to provide local level protection -- a move seemingly at odds with peace overtures.

Syria: Al Qaeda-led religious court executes 10 in Aleppo
[HINDUSTANTIMES] At least 10 people were executed on Saturday in Syria's Aleppo city on the orders of a religious court dominated by al Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The monitor said two of the executed were accused of adultery, with the rest accused of collaboration with the Syrian government.

The executions, in the eastern Aleppo neighbourhood of Shaar, were ordered by a religious court that includes several conservative rebel groups but is dominated by al-Nusra Front.

All 10 men were rubbed out, the Observatory said.

Islamic courts have been set up in many towns and villages in Syria that have been wrestled out of government forces' control by Islamist hard boyz or jihadist groups.

Al-Nusra has also carried out summary executions of government troops in areas captured by it.

Al-Nusra attacks headquarters of US-backed rebel group in northern Syria
[FOXNEWS] U.S.-backed rebels say members of al-Qaeda's branch in Syria have launched an attack on their command headquarters, killing at least five fighters and wounding more than a dozen.

A statement issued in the name of the U.S.-backed group, known as Division 30, said its fighters prevented Nusra Front gunnies from storming their head office.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Friday's fighting was concentrated south of the Syrian town of Azaz on the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The group added that warplanes believed to be from the U.S.-led coalition attacked Nusra Front positions in the area.

Nusra Front's attack came two days after the holy warriors kidnapped the leader of Division 30 and seven of his men.

Division 30 said five of its fighters were killed and 18 were maimed.
An Nahar adds that the honours were equal:
Al-Nusra Front unleashed its offensive on the base of the Division 30 unit in northern Aleppo province, a monitor said, sparking festivities and air raids by a U.S.-led coalition that killed at least 18 of the jihadists.

#1  The capture of several of US trained group by Al Qaeda followed by a confession by one of those trained that they were to attack Al Qaeda, not just ISIS. (Shocking comment from Obama Regimes American officials in Washington who said they were surprised that Al Qaeda would not cooperate with them who talked openly with a foreign language news outlet. Obviously the Obama regime does not believe Americans is listening to foreign news outlets while they have control of most US news outlets.)

Two ISIS bridges destroyed in U.S.-led air strikes
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] U.S.-led coalition air strikes destroyed two key bridges used by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) jihadist group on Syria's side of the border with Iraq early Friday, having pounded the bandidos bandidos Death Eaters with 41 strikes the previous day, a monitor and a joint command statement said.

The coalition "destroyed two bridges between the Syrian city of Albu Kamal and the Iraqi border," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"These bridges are strategically important for ISIS's movements between Albu Kamal and Iraq," he said.
An Nahar adds perspective:
The jihadists seized Albu Kamal and the nearby border crossing in July 2014, linking their territory in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor to areas they control in Iraq's western Anbar province.

The two bridges leading out of Albu Kamal -- one to the east, and one to the southeast -- were IS' "main routes to the Iraqi border," Abdel Rahman said.

The bridge running to the east crosses the Euphrates River and leads to Baghouz, a smaller town along the border.

To the southeast of Albu Kamal, a road crosses the bridge runs over a smaller river and continues as a road leading directly to the border.

"Using these bridges, it would take IS only a few minutes to reach the Iraqi border from Albu Kamal," Abdel Rahman said.

"The strikes do not cut off IS' route to Iraq, but they make IS movements there more difficult, because it will take them longer and they will be in view (of the coalition) for a longer period of time," he added.

The Pentagon confirmed the air raids, saying they had struck IS-held bridges in Deir Ezzor province.

"Coalition forces struck multiple Daesh (IS) targets in the vicinity of the eastern Syria border to reduce the freedom of movement of Daesh," said Brigadier General Kevin Killea, chief of staff of the U.S.-led coalition.

"These strikes will have a profound impact on the ability of Daesh in Syria to affect operations in Iraq, particularly in Ramadi," capital of Anbar province, Killea said.
