Afghanistan
Security Forces Thwart Taliban Attack On Ghazni
[Tolo News] Talibs reportedly closed the Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
-Kandahar highway on Monday in the Qarabagh district in Ghazni province in the hope of attacking six parts of the province. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
their attack was foiled by Afghan cops who battled the gunnies for a few hours.

The highway is a key transit route as it connects Kabul with Ghazni, Kandahar, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and Farah provinces in the country's southern and western parts.

Owners of transport companies in Kabul told how they are faced with ongoing security threats on the highway and that their problems were made worse after the Taliban closed the highway for hours on Monday.

Zikria, a driver for one of the transport companies, said he avoids the highway if he has passengers in his vehicle.

"I was the first car in a line to move towards Herat but my friends called me and advised me not to travel because there was a battle going on in Qarabagh district in Ghazni and the Taliban had closed the way," he said.

According to the transport companies, more than 90 vehicles -- including buses -- had been stuck in Qarabagh and their passengers now want compensation.

The head of one of the bus companies told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity that a number of buses and other vehicles from the company had turned back to Kabul at 2 am local time on Monday. He said that a number of passengers had been taken to a Ghazni hospital -- but he did not give reasons as to why they needed medical treatment.

Another driver who covers the Kabul-Kandahar Highway route told TOLOnews that they were stopped on the road by the Taliban and barred from continuing. "They [the Taliban] told us not to go forward as there was the danger of bombs and grenades. They [the Taliban] have not done anything to anyone so far," he added.

One passenger, Ihsan, who was on his way to Helmand to attend his brother's funeral, said he was able to leave as the road was closed.

"We were just informed that my brother has passed away. I came here but there are no tickets for sale and the way is closed," he said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert was realizing to his horror that he'd had only one bottle for one message, and he'd forgotten to include a return address...
PD5 officials from Kabul, where the bus companies are based, tried to prevent passengers and drivers from commenting on the situation along the highway. If they wanted to speak to TOLOnews, they had to get permission from the officials.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) meanwhile spoke out about the heavy festivities against the Taliban in the province and said the gunnies will be defeated in Ghazni.

"Talibs wanted to attack six parts of Ghazni including the central city but we repelled their attacks and we used aerial attacks as well," said Sediq Sediqi, front man for MoI.

Kunduz Operation Intensified
[Tolo News] Security officials on Monday said Afghan cops have intensified their operations to clear Kunduz of Lions of Islam and in addition to ground operations, Arclight airstrikes and house-to-house searches are being carried out.

TOLOnews news hound Wali Arian, who has been embedded with security forces both in the air and on land, says troops are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to eliminate the Taliban.

Arian said that house-to-house searches launched in Sedarak, Ali Khel and Zad Khel villages in Kunduz city have been successful.

He said the security forces have targeted the Talibs hiding out in civilian homes and Arclight airstrikes have been conducted on their hideouts.

"Heavy blows have been imposed on them [the Taliban]. Their vehicles have been burned. Intelligence reports reveal that the enemy has sustained a heavy casualty toll," said an air force officer adding that it was clear in one air raid that the Taliban fled across a nearby river.

According to Arian, the security forces are now close to the Chahardara district -- one of the main hubs of the Taliban on Sunday night.

"The bully boyz fought street to street in this area but they were pushed back and the security forces took control of the area," said Amir Khan, a member of a commando unit.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, there was another kaboom...
deputy army chief of staff Gen. Murad Ali Murad said they had planned other operations in the province as well.

"Our air operations have started in Chahardara, Kanama and other areas which are under our plan. We are busy strengthening the security belt in the city. We are happy with the performance of our forces," he added.

He said the army operation was launched after a shepherd was kidnapped on Sunday near Mount Sammama in the Kasserine region, located next to the main jihadist hideout of Mount Chaambi.

Female terrorist shot after stabbing Border Police officer in Jerusalem
[Jpost] Officer in light-to-moderate condition, suspect seriously injured.

Hours after a male Palestinian terrorist was killed in Jerusalem’s Old City Monday morning, an Arab woman was shot after stabbing a Border Police officer near the capital’s police headquarters.

According to Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, the attack took place at approximately 2:15 p.m., near the Ammunition Hill light rail stop, when the unidentified suspect stabbed the officer on a sidewalk.

“Officers on the scene shot the woman immediately and cordoned off the area,” Rosenfeld said minutes after the attack. “The officer was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics and rushed to an area hospital in light-to-moderate condition.”

Rosenfeld said the suspect was seriously injured and has also been hospitalized, adding that police have cordoned off the scene.

“Police are investigating the attack and continue to maintain a high level of security throughout the capital,” he said.

Despite markedly heightened security, coupled by newly-installed metal detectors, the area located near the entrance to the Temple Mount remains one of the most volatile and dangerous sections of the Old City.

Amid the capital’s ongoing wave of violence, Acting police Police Chief Bentzi Sau on Sunday ordered 1,000 extra highly-trained Border Police officers to be dispatched to the Old City and flashpoint Arab neighborhoods to assist the 3,500 officers presently on the ground.

Stabbing attacks against Jews have become so common that Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat last Thursday encouraged citizens with gun permits to remain armed when walking the city streets.

Meanwhile, police said 17 Palestinians in east Jerusalem suspected of throwing rocks and firebombs at officers and Jews in the capital were arrested overnight, bringing the total number of Palestinian arrested since October 1 to nearly 350.

Four terrorist attacks rock Jerusalem over 12 hours
[Jpost] 13-year-old Jewish boy stabbed in Pisgat Ze'ev at death's door; 3 assailants killed, 2 jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!

Four terrorist attacks in the span of 12 hours on Monday have brought Jerusalem to its highest state of alert in years.

Following the latest attack shortly after 9 p.m., police briefly shut the entrance to the city after a Paleostinian man on an Egged bus stabbed an IDF soldier before being rubbed out, police front man Micky Rosenfeld said.

The soldier was taken to hospital were he was listed as lightly maimed.

A 13-year-old Jewish boy remains at death's door after two Paleostinian teenagers stabbed him nearly a dozen times in Jerusalem's Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood, in what was the third attack of the day.

According to the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the suspects in that attack, ages 13 and 15, are cousins from the Jerusalem's northern neighborhood of Beit Hanina. Neither youth has any prior record of security-related incidents, the Shin Bet said.

"Both murderous Moslems attacked the boy while he was riding his bicycle, and stabbed him many times all over his body before a driver stopped the 13-year-old terrorist by ramming his car into him," Rosenfeld said. "The other assailant then stabbed a 24-year-old Jewish man nearby before being rubbed out by police."

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene moments later, and rushed the boy and second victim, who was at death's door, to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, as police cordoned-off the area, Rosenfeld said.

Southern Command attempts to contain border clashes without use of live fire
[Jpost] IDF units fire tear gas at Gazan rioters who crossed border fence.

A group of Gazook rioters approached the security fence from the center of the Strip and breached the border with Israel on Monday.

They were then surrounded by IDF units, which fired tear gas and pushed them back into Gazoo, an army spokeswoman said. The rioters breached the border repeatedly, before being moved back by the IDF each time into Gazoo.

The IDF's Southern Command is attempting to contain Paleostinian riots near the Gazoo border fence without the use of live fire, after recent border festivities between Paleostinian mobs and the army left nine Gazooks dead from gunshot wounds.

A military source said that while there has been no change in the rules of engagement in cases involving the approach of rioters to the fence, commanders have told ground units to focus on deploying tear gas and to fire warning shots in the air to prevent rioters from trying to damage or breach the border barrier.

"If those measures are insufficient, then the soldiers will have to fire at the legs [of rioters]," the source added.

Investigations from the deadly festivities in the recent days have not yet been completed, and will likely reach their conclusions only after the region becomes calmer.

Continued unrest along the border carries with it the risk of escalation with Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, an increase in rocket attacks on the South, and retaliatory Israel Air Force strikes.

Two Paleostinian minors aged 12 and 15 were rubbed out during border festivities on Saturday, Paleostinian medics said, according to a Rooters report, while seven were killed in similar incidents on Friday.
The Times of Israel quantifies:
Dozens of Gazans cross into Israel, 6 hurt in border clashes

[IsraelTimes] IDF fires at rioters who enter Israeli territory; Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, denies reports it banned residents from boundary

At least six Gazooks were reported injured during renewed festivities between Israeli soldiers and protesters Monday evening along the Israel-Gazoo border, after several dozen Paleostinians crossed the border fence into Israel, the second such incident in recent days.

Israel Defense Forces soldiers fired at the group of some 20 protesters in an effort to push the Paleostinians back toward the Hamas-controlled territory, the Walla news site reported.

The protesters sneaked into Israel adjacent to the al-Bureij refugee camp and emerged in the Eshkol Regional Council, in the center of the Strip, before the IDF arrived at the scene.

The festivities came days after at least nine Paleostinians were killed and dozens maimed in festivities with IDF troops along the border, after 70 Gazooks entered Israel from the Strip.

The IDF confirmed that "dozens" of Paleostinians had broken through the border fence, and said that efforts to push the protesters back into Gazoo were ongoing.

Earlier on Monday, the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, leaders of the Strip denied reports that they had issued a warning to Gazoo residents banning them from approaching the border fence with Israel.

Up until last week, which saw the deadly border festivities along with several rocket attacks and retaliatory Israeli Arclight airstrikes, the Gazoo Strip has been relatively calm, amid an upsurge in violence in Israel and the West Bank.

On Sunday, Hamas warned Israel against "foolishness" after the Israeli Air Force struck the Gazoo Strip in response to rocket fire at southern communities. A woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed in that strike.

Analysts believe Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,'s goal is to ignite the West Bank into a Paleostinian uprising, or intifada, which will ultimately lead to the dismantling of the group's rival, the Paleostinian Authority.

Much of the recent flareup of violence has centered around Paleostinian claims that Israel is seeking to change the decades-old status quo on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, a site holy to both Jews and Muslims. The site, which houses the al-Aqsa Mosque, is administered by the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf. Under rules set by Israel, Jews are allowed to visit but not to pray at the site. Israel has repeatedly denied accusations that it intends to make changes to the current rules, and says the accusations are incitement to violence.

Amid heightened fears that an intifada could erupt, Israel has recently deployed Iron Dome missile defense batteries in the southern cities of Beersheba, Ofakim, Sderot and Netivot.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah mourns senior commander killed in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Leb's Hezbollah on Monday buried a commander described as the group's most important military figure to be killed in the four-year-long Syrian war.

Hassan al-Haj was killed in Idlib province in northwestern Syria, where the Iranian-backed group is fighting Syrian rebels in an offensive in support of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
and backed by Russian air strikes.

He was buried with military honors in the southern Lebanese village of al-Luwaizeh on Monday. Pall-bearers dressed in camouflage military fatigues processed slowly to solemn trumpet music with the coffin draped in a yellow Hezbollah flag.

The Syria conflict has exacted a heavy toll on Hezbollah, with many hundreds of its fighters killed in the war.

"He is the most important (Hezbollah) figure killed in battles in Syria since the start of the war," a senior Lebanese official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
The coffin was driven through towns in southern Leb, Hezbollah's stronghold, in a convoy of black cars and ambulances. It was then carried for burial through his hometown of al-Luwaizeh in the Tuffah region, followed by a crowd of thousands of funeral-goers.

"You were not just an official, nor merely a director or chief of operations. You were a leader of pure quality, an example and model for all your brothers and beloved mujahideen," senior Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hashem Safieddin said in a eulogy broadcast by Hezbollah's al-Manar TV.

U.S. airdrops ammunition to Syrian Arabs
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] U.S.-led coalition forces have parachuted ammunition to rebels fighting ISIS jihadists in northern Syria, a U.S. military front man said Monday as al-Qaeda's offshoot in the war-torn country say Russia is ignoring ISIS.

The move follows the Pentagon's announcement last week that it would halt its much-criticized program to train moderate rebels, and instead focus efforts on equipping pre-screened rebel leaders from groups actively fighting ISIS.

Colonel Steve Warren, the Baghdad-based front man for the U.S.-led effort to strike ISIS in Iraq and Syria, said the ammunition had gone to a group called the Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC) that has for months been fighting ISIS across an arc of territory north of the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.

The coalition, comprising several smaller Arab groups, includes between 4,000 and 5,000 fighters and US forces have carefully vetted the group's leader, Warren said.

The United States and its allies could eventually strike ISIS targets identified by SAC fighters on the ground, he added.

"Coalition forces conducted an airdrop Sunday in northern Syria to resupply local counter-ISIL ground forces as they conduct operations against ISIL," U.S. Central Command front man Colonel Patrick Ryder said in a statement, using an alternative acronym for ISIS.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a U.S. official told AFP the drop included 50 tons of ammunition and hand grenades.

positions in Syria over the last 24 hours, the Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

"In the course of the last 24 hours, Russian military aircraft Su-34s, Su-24Ms and Su-25SMs have executed 55 combat outings engaging 53 ISIS positions in the Homs, Hama, Latakia and Idlib provinces," reported Anadolu quoting a Russian defense ministry statement.

The statement said Russian jets had targeted ISIS bunkers and weapons depots near the city of Latakia in Idlib province, and ISIS convoys transporting ammunition and fuel north of Hama.

Syrian army, Russian jets drive back rebels in fiercest clashes for days: monitor
[Rooters] - Syrian army and Iranian lackeys allied forces supported by Russian leadsleds warplanes made further advances as they pressed an offensive against insurgents on Monday, in the fiercest clashes for nearly a week, a monitor said.

"These are the most violent
are there any other kind?
battles in the northern countryside (of Hama) since the start of joint operations several days ago" between the Russian air force and Syrian ground forces, he said.

Lebanese-based television station al-Mayadeen also reported the takeover of the southern part of Kafr Nabuda.

Kafr Nabuda's capture would bring government forces closer to insurgent-held positions along the main highway that links Syria's main cities. "The town is very important and strategic," Abdulrahman said.

The Syrian army and Hezbollah on Sunday took control of Tal Skik on the other side of the highway in southern Idlib province. Many of Russia's air strikes have hit the surrounding area, which also lies east of Assad's stronghold Latakia.

#1  Syrian army and allied forces supported by Russian warplanes.

Having reliable local auxiliaries to take the brunt of fighting on the ground is a must for "nation building".

Terror Networks
US believes ISIS leader al-Baghdadi still alive, despite Iraqi airstrike claim
[FOXNEWS] U.S. military officials believe that His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, the leader of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (ISIS), is still alive, despite claims by the Iraqi military Sunday that its air force struck a convoy carrying the terror leader.

A statement Sunday said "the Iraqi air force carried out a heroic operation targeting the convoy of the criminal terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi" as he made his way to a meeting in the town of Karablah, in Iraq's western Anbar province. The statement says al-Baghdadi's fate and whereabouts are not known.

A U.S. military source told Fox News that al-Baghdadi did not appear to have been hit in the Arclight airstrike. Another U.S. official told Fox News that Iraqi officials were collecting DNA from the scene of the strikes.

The official added that the convoy targeted by the Iraqis resembled those in which al-Baghdadi moved around and operated.

Iraqi Defense Ministry front man Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named the military is still investigating whether al-Baghdadi was in the convoy that was struck.

#6  Thanks for remembering that detail for me, Pappy. The concern when he was first injured was that he couldn't be a proper caliph if he was incapable of physically leading the troops. Clearly they'd found a sympathetic ruling somewhere.
