NAS Whidbey Prowlers returning from final mission
USS George H.W. Bush carrier strike group, deployed since Feb. 15, according to the Navy is returning home.

NAS Whidbey-based VAQ 134 has been a part of the departing strike group, and the squadrons involvement will be the Navy’s final job for the Prowler.

“This is the final Navy EA-6B Prowler deployment, and that, despite its age, compared to the modern EA-18G Growler, the old Prowler, thanks to its dedicated maintainers and air crew, is proving itself right up to the end,” said Lt. Joseph Hontz, U.S. 5th Fleet spokesman.

Upon its return to Whidbey, VAQ 134 will begin its transition to the Growler, which will complete the Navy-wide transition by the 2015 target date.

Prowlers will still be flown by the Marine Corps squadrons.

Government forces claim victory at 17 February Camp for second time
[Libya Herald] Pro-government forces fighting under the banner of the Libyan National Army (LNA) have claimed control of 17 February Brigade's central Benghazi camp nine days after they initially announced victory there.

A member of 204 Tank Battalion told the Libya Herald that his unit had completely destroyed the camp, driving out any remaining Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council (BRSC) forces there.

Residents in Garyounis and other areas near to the sprawling camp reported some of the worst festivities they had witnessed in recent days. They said the heavy fighting began at around 7 am and continued well into the afternoon.

Before the apparent pacification of the 17 February Brigade camp, Saqr Adam Geroushi, a leading LNA air force commander told the Libya Herald that victory over the BRSC position had been become harder as Islamist bandidos faceless myrmidons took refuge in homes, engaged in fighting dangerously close to residential areas, and deployed snipers in around places such as Suq Al-Hood in central Benghazi.

Geroushi said because of the tactics used by Islamist forces in Benghazi the LNA was unable to effectively carry out Arclight airstrikes on their positions or employ the artillery at their disposal.

While the fighting has subsided at the BRSC camp it has continued in Gwarsha, Bel Awn and Al-Habba. The LNA claimed a symbolic victory at the entrance to Gwarsha two days ago taking out a strategic Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. Egyptian Army Suffers Deadliest Attack In Decades
[Ynet] Premeditated offensive on military position in Sinai kills 30 troops; officials believe attack initiated by Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.

A coordinated assault on an army checkpoint in the Sinai Peninsula killed 30 Egyptian troops on Friday, making it the deadliest single attack in decades on the military, which has been struggling to stem a wave of violence by Islamic turbans since the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

Officials described it as "well-planned" attack that began with a boom-mobile which may have been set off by a suicide kaboomer. Other murderous Moslems then fired rocket-propelled grenades, striking a tank carrying ammunition and igniting a secondary kaboom. Roadside bombs intended to target rescuers struck two army vehicles, seriously wounding a senior officer.

Masked men burn Saudi consulate cars in Egypt
[ARABNEWS] Masked men set fire to two cars belonging to the consulate of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
in the Egyptian city of Suez on Friday morning, local security sources and the state news agency reported.

Security sources told Rooters at least four men threw crude fire bombs at the vehicles. State news agency MENA said the cars were parked in a lot in Suez's Arbaeen district.

Major General Tareq Al-Gazoor, director of security in the city, said authorities were working to identify the attackers.

The Saudi embassy in Cairo declined to comment.

Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait have supported Egypt with large-scale aid in cash and petroleum products.

Security sources, meanwhile, said two attacks in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula killed at least 28 security personnel.

More than 25 people died in the first attack in the Al-Kharouba area northwest of Al-Arish, near the Gazoo Strip, the sources said. Medical sources expected the toll to increase because some of the maimed were in a critical condition.

The car kaboom targeted two armoured vehicles stopped at a checkpoint near an army installation, the sources said. One Sinai-based official said the attack was by rocket-propelled grenade. More than 25 people were maimed.

Hours later, gunnies opened fire on a checkpoint in Al-Arish, killing three members of the security forces, officials said.

The maimed and dead were transported by military helicopters to Cairo, state news agency MENA reported.

Six 'Militants' Killed Ahead of Key Tunisia Polls
[AnNahar] A raid by Tunisian security forces on an gang near the capital Friday left six suspected snuffies dead, including five women, fanning tensions days ahead of a landmark election.

Tens of thousands of soldiers and police will be deployed for Sunday's parliamentary polls -- the first since an uprising three years ago that inspired the Arab Spring revolutions.

The authorities have expressed fears that "terrorists" will seek to disrupt the vote.

Tribesmen blow up Yemeni oil pipeline
[ARABNEWS] Tribesmen blew up Yemen's main oil export pipeline on Friday, halting crude flows, local officials said, less than a week after it was repaired.

Yemen's oil and gas pipelines have been repeatedly sabotaged, often by rustics who have feuds with the central government, causing fuel shortages and slashing export earnings for the impoverished country. The last attack was on Oct. 16 and the pipeline was repaired two days later.

The officials said the pipeline, which transports crude from Marib oil fields in central Yemen to Ras Isa on the Red Sea, was blown up in the Wadi Obaida area.

Yemen has said oil flows through the Marib pipeline, one of its main petroleum export routes, at a rate of around 70,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Before the spate of attacks began three years ago, the 270-mile (435-km) pipeline carried around 110,000 barrels per day to Ras Isa.

It was unclear when it would be repaired.

Heavily-armed tribes carry out such assaults to extract concessions from the government such as jobs, settlements of land disputes or the release of relatives from prison.

Most of Yemen's output is from the Marib-Jawf area in the north, with the rest coming from Masila in the southeast.

3 Istanbul Consulates Evacuated
[Ynet] Turkish authorities say the consulates of Canada, Belgium and Germany in Istanbul have been evacuated after receiving suspicious packages Friday. Dogan Eskinat, a front man for Turkey's emergence management agency, AFAD, said that seven people from the Canadian consulate have been hospitalized as a precaution after one of them opened a package and was exposed to a yellow powder.

Dogan said that as part of standard procedures, Turkish authorities have sent samples for testing. Claude Rochon, spokeswoman at Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, said: "All staff at the Canadian mission are safe and accounted for."

Three Kurdish Militants Killed In Attack On Turkish Power Plant
[Ynet] Turkish soldiers killed three Kurdish gunnies who were part of a group that attacked a power plant in the eastern province of Kars, Turkish sources said on Friday.

Fighters from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) set fire to two vehicles and a cabin at the plant in Kagizman district, and shot at soldiers who returned fire, the general staff said in a statement on its website.

Three PKK guerrillas were killed and a search was launched for the others, a security source said.

Ottawa X-ray Technologist Sentenced to 12 Years in Terror Plot
[AnNahar] A former Ottawa x-ray technologist was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison for conspiring to facilitate terrorism, officials said.

Misbahuddin Ahmed, 30, was convicted in July, but was acquitted of a more serious charge of bomb-making for terrorist purposes.

He was convicted of "conspiring to facilitate a terrorist activity," Canada's Public Prosecution office said Thursday, adding that he has 30 days to appeal the ruling.

The sentencing came a day after a gunman shot a soldier dead in Ottawa and stormed the capital's parliament building before he was killed by a federal officer.

The attack was unrelated to Ahmed's case.

Ahmed and two alleged co-conspirators had been tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in police raids in 2010.

Authorities said he and his accomplices had plotted to attack a repatriation ceremony at a Canadian military base usually attended by the minister of defense and chief of the defense staff.

Police had said the accused were in possession of a horde of material for making improvised bombs, including schematics, videos, drawings, instructions, books and electrical components.

During raids on the homes of the suspects, authorities said they also seized more than 50 electronic circuit boards that could be used in remote detonators.

The alleged ringleader of the terror cell Hiva Alizadeh pleaded guilty to the bomb-possession charges in a plea deal that saw him sentenced in September to 24 years in prison.

A third man, Khurram Sher, a Canadian doctor of Pak heritage who once auditioned for a televised talent show, was acquitted at trial of terrorism the previous month.

Co-accused acquitted in Daniel Pearl murder case
Of course he was. It's no true crime to kill an unbeliever.
[DAWN] An anti-terrorist court (ATC) in Hyderabad on Thursday evening acquitted Qari Hashim, a co-accused in the kidnapping and murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl, for lack of evidence during an inside jail trial.
There was only one witness, but he died suddenly when he lost his head.
Hashim was incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in August 2005 in conjunction with the kidnapping and was locked up in Hyderabad's central prison.

Defence counsel Sher Mohammad Leghari had filed an acquittal plea under Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code, arguing that there was no evidence against his client.

According to Leghari, Hashim had been apprehended for arranging a meeting for Daniel Pearl with Mubarak Ali Shah Gillani. The court acquitted the accused for lack of evidence.

Later in the evening, a younger brother of Hashim, Syed Khalid Imran, told journalists at the Hyderabad Press Club that his brother had not yet been released by prison authorities despite his acquittal in the murder case.

Imran, fearing that his brother may be implicated by authorities in some false cases, said that the family will approach their counsel again to pursue the matter legally.

Iraq
Iraq army recaptures town near Baghdad from ISIL
[Iran Press TV] The Iraqi army says its forces, backed by Shia volunteers, have recaptured the town of Jurf al-Sakhr, southwest of Baghdad, from the ISIL bully boys.

Located nearly 60 kilometers away from Baghdad, Jurf al-Sakhr sits on a major road linking the capital to oil-rich provinces in the south.

Earlier, over 40 bad boyz were potted in fierce festivities with Iraqi soldiers in the Dwailiba district south of Baghdad. The army troops also sized a large cache of ammunition from the bully boys.

On Thursday, the Iraqi army, which has been fighting the terrorist group for nearly six months now, engaged the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
Death Eaters south of the city of Tikrit in Salah al-Din Province, killing at least 20 terrorists.

The Iraqi army has also continued to advance in the eastern Diyala Province, regaining strategic parts of the province used by the Death Eaters as launch pads for attacks against the Iraqi forces.

In a separate incident, 134 ISIL Death Eaters along with a big shot of the terrorist group were killed in Arclight airstrikes by the anti-ISIL coalition led by the US in the city of Baiji, which is located in Salah al-Din Province.

The US-led coalition has been conducting Arclight airstrikes on ISIL positions across Iraq, but the air raids have so far failed to dislodge the terrorists.

The Iraqi troops have pledged to make more gains in the coming weeks.

Iraq Kurds to send up to 200 fighters to Syria next week
Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region will send next week up to 200 fighters from its peshmerga security forces to aid the embattled Syrian town of Kobani, a spokesman said Friday.
Impressive as the Iraqi Kurds themselves are being pressed pretty hard...
The town on the Turkish border has become a crucial battleground in the fight against the ISIS group, which overran large parts of Iraq in June and also holds significant territory in Syria. Backed by air strikes from a US-led coalition, Kurdish militia have been defending Kobani against a fierce ISIS offensive for more than a month.

"The forces that will be sent are support forces and their number will not exceed 200 fighters," Halgord Hekmat, spokesman for the ministry responsible for the peshmerga, told AFP.

"We are not able to specify the day but it will definitely be during the next week," he added.

They will be armed with automatic weapons, mortars and rocket launchers, he said, declining to specify what route they would take. They will likely pass through Turkey, which said this week it would allow peshmerga fighters to do so to relieve the town's defenders.

The deployment stretches the bounds of regional autonomy and has been termed unconstitutional by some Iraqi MPs.

France Announces Big Coalition Air Raid against IS in Iraq

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Iraq dropped around 70 bombs on an arsenal and jihadist training center in a large-scale overnight raid, the French military said Friday.

"I think it's safe to say we hurt them last night. The operation is a success," La Belle France's Chief of the Defense Staff Pierre de Villiers told Europe 1 radio, adding the raid took place in the Kirkuk region of northern Iraq.

La Belle France's Rafale fighter jets took part in the operation, which destroyed buildings in which IS snuffies "produced their traps, their bombs, their weapons to attack Iraqi forces," he said.

"Some 70 bombs were dropped, we fired 12 laser-guided bombs and we hit our target."

Since it announced it would take part in the U.S.-led coalition in September, La Belle France has carried out seven rounds of air strikes over Iraq but it has so far refused to join the United States in its air war against IS in Syria.

Overall, U.S. and allied aircraft have flown nearly 6,600 sorties in Iraq and Syria -- where IS controls swathes of territory -- and dropped more than 1,700 bombs, the US military said Thursday.

The air strikes have helped Kurdish militia defending the embattled Syrian border town of Kobane to hold out against the more heavily armed jihadists but have not stopped IS making new gains in parts of Iraq.

Riots Resume In Jerusalem After Palestinian Teen Killed In West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Clashes between Israel Police and Paleostinian rioters in East Jerusalem continued Friday evening, after a Paleostinian teenager was rubbed out by IDF forces in the West Bank village of Silwad, near Ramallah, earlier.

Protesters hurled stones and firecrackers at police forces in the Old City and the capital's Silwan neighborhood. Police, in turn, responded with riot dispersal means, Army Radio reported. There were no injuries in the incidents.

Hamas called on Friday to avenge the killing of 14-year-old Orwa Abed El Wahan Hammad Wahab, who was shot by IDF troops after he attempted to hurl a Molotov cocktail at traffic on Highway 60, in the West Bank. A relative of the teen said he was a US citizen.

A relative said Hammad was born in New Orleans and came to the West Bank at age six. Hammad's cousin Moath said he was among a group of Paleostinians who were throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers.

The US consulate in Jerusalem said the youth held US citizenship, while locals in Silwad said Hammad's father lives in the United States.

"We can confirm now that the teenager who was killed was an American citizen," consulate front man Leslie Ordeman told AFP, without commenting further.

The US State Department later expressed its condolences to the boy's family, and called for "a speedy and transparent investigation, and will remain closely engaged with the local authorities, who have the lead on this investigation." It urged calm from both sides to "avoid escalating tensions."

The IDF said the teenager was 17 and was shot as he was about to hurl a Molotov cocktail at oncoming traffic on Highway 60 in the West Bank, endangering lives.

"The forces fired immediately to neutralize the danger ... and confirmed a hit," an IDF spokeswoman told AFP.

He is the second teen to be killed by army fire in eight days. A 13-year-old was killed last week in a West Bank village.

Another 12 Paleostinians were maimed in the festivities on Friday, a hospital official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with the media.

Earlier Friday, three Paleostinians were enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
by police during rioting in the Wadi Joz neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

The suspects were throwing rocks and fireworks at police after the conclusion of prayers on the Temple Mount.

Police responded with crowd dispersal methods, according to officials. There were no reports of injuries from the incident.

On Thursday, police dispersed a similar crowd of rioters in the neighborhood. No injuries were reported at that incident, but the stones caused damage to a vehicle.

Tensions flared in the capital Thursday in the wake of a Wednesday terrorist attack on a Jerusalem light rail station in which three-month-old Chaya Zissel Braun was killed and eight others were maimed.

Jerusalem's mayor called for a crackdown against the wave of Paleostinian unrest. In a Thursday interview, Mayor Nir Barkat said the violence had become intolerable, and he vowed to restore order.

Thailand appoints chief negotiator in peace talks
The Thai government has appointed the chairman of the army's advisory panel to head renewed peace talks with insurgents in the country's far South, a deputy prime minister confirmed Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the appointment of Gen. Aksara Kerdpol is awaiting an official order from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The government is working on solutions to violence in the far South and is determined to make headway, Prawit, who is also the defense minister, said.

The Prayut government has set out to resume peace talks with southern insurgents, with Malaysia continuing to act as the facilitator. A ten-member team has been formed to continue the stalled negotiations which will include all groups involved in the long-standing insurgency, army chief Udomdej Sitabutr said earlier.

According to Udomdej, the National Security Council is currently working with Malaysian authorities on the framework of the negotiation, but the date has not yet been set.

Philippines coordinating with MILF to end Abu Sayyaf
The Philippine government is counting on the support of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in neutralizing the terrorist Abu Sayyaf group, a top government official said Thursday.
An interesting development. Is it likely to work?
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the government has been coordinating with the MILF in suppressing the group. He said, "They are our partner in achieving peace and order in Bangsamoro."

A Bangsamoro government is expected to be established to replace the current Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as part of an agreement signed by the Philippine government and the MILF in March this year.

Coloma said the Philippine government expected the MILF to not only condemn the activities of the Abu Sayyaf, but also to support the government forces' operation against the rebels in areas covered by the envisioned Bangsamoro entity.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS attempts to cut off Kobane from Turkey.
Illustrating once again this conflict is more than a simple terrorist action.
Looking back to October 11th. ISIS today is still trying to cut off Kobane from Turkey, only considerably more ISIS men are dead and ISIS material destroyed, so clearly it's important to them.

#1  Yes, dated mid-Oct, but contains some good photos and as the TW indicates, Kobane is still relevant to the ISIS strategic mission.

#3  Taking Kobane would mean gaining a direct line of access between it and Aleppo. It's also one of the last areas in northern Syria that IS doesn't control.

It also isolates the Syrian Kurds from Turkey. so it's not only the IS that benefits by the area being taken.

Syria Air Strikes Kill 10 Children, 5 Women in Aleppo
[AnNahar] Ten children and five women have been killed in Syrian government air strikes in the northern province of Aleppo, a monitoring group said Friday.

The children, aged from four to 10, and women were killed Thursday "in barrel bomb strikes by regime helicopters on a home and public hall in the village of Tal Qarrah in the north of Aleppo," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The bombing also destroyed civilian property and maimed several people, some of them critically, the Britannia-based Observatory added.

's air force has carried out near-daily strikes against areas under rebel control in the northern province since last December, killing several hundred people, mostly civilians.

Rights groups have repeatedly criticized the use of barrel bombs, which they say fail to discriminate between civilian and military targets.

#1  so how many armed men did they kill then?
I reckon they didn't mention that as it would make the whole article look daft.

Five Lebanese soldiers injured in fresh Tripoli clashes
[Iran Press TV] Fresh festivities have broken out between Leb's army forces and armed Lions of Islam in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, leaving at least five Lebanese troops maimed.

According to reports, several civilians and Lions of Islam were also injured in Thursday festivities in Tripoli. A first lieutenant also sustained injuries during the fighting and is now at death's door.

"The number of maimed soldiers has risen to five," said a Lebanese security official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, adding that "several gunnies have been injured, while others have been tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
."

The identity and motive of the armed Lions of Islam have not been revealed yet, but it is said that the fighting might have been related to the festivities between the Lebanese army and anti-Syria Lions of Islam that killed at least four people in the city earlier in the day.

The deadly fighting took place after the Lebanese military forces attacked an apartment in the village of Aasun in the Dinniyeh region of Tripoli, said the country's security sources.

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front and the ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
Lions of Islam overran the city of Arsal, situated 124 kilometers (77 miles) northeast of the capital, Beirut, in August, abducting more than three dozen soldiers and security forces. They have executed at least three of the hostages.

The Takfiri murderous Moslems demand the release of a number of Lions of Islam in Lebanese jails in exchange for the captive Lebanese soldiers and coppers.

Over the past months, Leb has been suffering from terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-affiliated Lions of Islam as well as random rocket attacks, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011 with ISIL Takfiri murderous Moslems currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east and north.

Army Raids Terror Network in Dinniyeh, Arrests Wanted Fugitive
[AnNahar] The Lebanese Army Intelligence raided at dawn on Thursday an apartment in the northern area of Dinniyeh, which is inhabited by a "group of terrorists," killing three gunnies and apprehending a runaway.

The army said in a communique that one soldier sustained minor injuries during the raid.

The identities of the killed turbans were not identified.

According to the statement, an army unit had been monitoring the location of terrorist 51-year-old Ahmed Salim Miqati, who is also known as Abou al-Huda and Abi Bakr.

Miqati recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and established cells linked to the group in the region.

He was planning to carry out a huge terrorist act along with his son Omar, who is fighting alongside ISIL in the northeastern border town of Arsal, the army added.

The army seized in the apartment light and medium weapons, in addition to rockets, grenades, boom belts and military equipment.

Investigations kicked off with him, the army said.

Media reports had earlier said that two members of the raided network fled away, while the state-run National News Agency said that a Syrian refugee was killed during the raid.

OTV identified one of the killed men as Mohammed al-Etri.

Miqati is also the relative of Bilal Omar Miqati who is accused of beheading Lebanese soldiers on the outskirts of Arsal.

Abou al-Huda has been recruiting men to join ISIL ranks and has an arrest warrant against him, the army said in its statement.

Agence La Belle France Presse reported that a soldier who recently announced via YouTube his defection from the army was captured during the raid.

He was the fifth Lebanese soldier to have announced his defection from the army since August.

All have announced their desertion in videos released by jihadists groups in which they claim they have joined Death Eater ranks.

Front and the Islamic State group in Arsal in August.

There are fears that the Syrian refugee encampments in Leb could turn into areas that harbor Death Eaters, or a springboard to head to Syrian or Lebanese territories for violent acts.

The jihadists held several soldiers and coppers captive after withdrawing from the town. Three of them were executed in August and September.
