New bill would allow the government to read private email without warrant

#1  ..but exempts itself from public disclosure and from prosecution even if caught violating existing laws on open access to government communication.

#2  In the past, I would be confidant that the supreme court would slap this puppy down. But they haven't been on the side of the constitution lately so anything like this coming down from the stupid party and the treason party.

#3  Personally I think all email should be encrypted (with strong encryption) by default. It's about as secure as those reply-by-mail cards. (Which expect you to put your credit card information on the card.)

But then they will just ban encryption.

#4  or strong-arm the software companies into giving them the master key for any encryption technologies
Posted by: bigjim-CA || 11/21/2012 12:05 Comments || Top||

#5  For all public encryption keys, the companies in the US are required to give a copy of the decryption key to the NSA, FYI. They already have ways to read data that is publicly encrypted.

However, that being said you can generate your own encryption key pretty darn easily and share it between users.

#6  Except for Dr. Mann's.

#7  Wonder if the new law will apply to members of Congress...

#8  or the EPA

#9  Or the SEIU.

Or Valerie Jarrett.

Or the NYT.

Or...

#10  Now you know what this regimes definition of transparency is. Transparency applies to everyone but them.

"...next, the Federal Government started opening every piece of mail to your home."

#11  you mean .... would allow the Gov't to read everybody's emails with HUMAN eyes?? Because it's already being analyzed by computer algorithms. Hope they enjoy all the jokes about the Kardashions :-)

#12  I use 4 wheel Enigma machines for my correspondence. I start with some doggerel and then encrypt it, and send it off (with secret anal-ysis) on the way. It is a simple head code, used as a source of innocent merriment.

The Million Dollar Question On Benghazi No One Is Asking
Posted by: tipper || 11/21/2012 08:21 || Comments || Link || [0 views] Top|| File under:

#1  The question is: Ambassador Stevens was concerned enough to journal his fears about the situation falling apart, what in the world was he doing on that day going there with no security?
We all make mistakes. That was the ambassador's last mistake.

#2  I imagine Stevens got a reminder of Animal House when he called State for help:

"You f*&ked up. You trusted us"
Posted by: Frank G || 11/21/2012 14:02 Comments || Top||

#3  Stevens was Obama's "point man" for Obama to funnel arms to Libya And Syria. See videos at LINK..
Perhaps Stevens became "expendable"? Weren't some arms ending up in AlQaeda's possession??
Posted by: Tom-Pa || 11/21/2012 15:47 Comments || Top||

#4  Caveat at the beginning: I dislike doing analysis at this still-early stage. I dislike conspiracy theories even more.

But 'expendable' is possible. As is everything else at this point.

One open source mentioned "four CIA operatives" had been killed at Benghazi. Highly likely it is a mistake...
