Afghanistan
Kunar Gov. Demands Action Against Pakistani Shelling
[Tolo News] Provincial Governor of Kunar, Shuja Malek Jalal, has asserted that Pakistain's missile attacks on the province are obvious infringements of international law and should face serious responses. About 6,018 missiles have been fired on Kunar from Pakistain since the middle of March this year.

"We must first try to take a diplomatic route; but if that does not work, we should respond to their [Pakistain's] rockets with rockets," Jalal said.

Kunar has been the target of Pak shelling for the past few years. The most recent attacks have claimed the lives of 16 people, destroyed close to 100 homes and maimed 80 people, including women and kiddies.

Diplomatic talks between the two neighboring countries have not stopped the attacks. Now, with the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
General Assembly approaching--September 21--political analysts have recommended that the Afghan government ask for the UN Security Council's mediation.

"During the assembly, the government of Afghanistan must strongly criticize the attacks and ask members of the UN Security Council to issue a resolution in regards to the direct interference of Pakistain in Afghanistan," military analyst Jawed Kohistani said.

If the election results are not announced by September 21 the country will be represented by the minister of foreign affairs.

"The minister's speech is not fully prepared so it is still early to speak of the details," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) front man Shekib Mostaghni said.

Pessimistic of the idea that the minister of MoFA might have to represent Afghanistan at the UN General Assembly, Kunar MPs believe that the minister will not be able to give detail of the attacks.

"I don't think that the minister of foreign affairs would be able to tell the world about the four years of Pakistain's attacks in the assembly," Kunar MP Saleh Muhammad said.

The Pak attacks have continued for years and intensified in the last few months despite Afghanistan's efforts to resolve the issue diplomatically. Afghanistan's letter to the UN Security Council in this regard has not received a response yet.

My own party men want me dead, says Tunisian candidate
[ARABNEWS] The prosecution service said Monday it has opened an inquiry after a frontrunner in Tunisia's presidential poll in November, 87-year-old Beji Caid Essebsi, said members of his own party want him killed.

Prosecution service front man Allala Rhouma told AFP that after statements Essebsi made during a meeting on Friday, an inquiry has begun "and the judge will summon Mr. Essebsi so he can name those implicated."

Rhouma cited articles of the Tunisian criminal code dealing with attempted murder and conspiracy.

Essebsi, a former premier and considered the main rival to the Ennahda party, on Friday accused "infiltrators" in his Nidaa Tounes party who oppose his candidacy of wanting to eliminate him.

Tunisia is gearing up for a parliamentary election on October 26 and a presidential poll less than a month later, on November 23.

For weeks, Nidaa Tounes has seen infighting over Essebsi's nomination because of his advanced age and over the place accorded to former members of ousted dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's regime.

On Monday, Nidaa Tounes excluded two party members, one of whom, Omar Shabou, said on television Sunday that he had seen Essebsi's medical file and his health would not allow him to perform the duties of president.

However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
Essebsi remains a favorite to become head of state.

A veteran of Tunisian politics, Essebsi was minister of the interior, defense and foreign affairs under the country's founding president Habib Bourguiba, and then parliamentary speaker under Ben Ali.

His critics accuse him of seeking to restore the regime of the deposed dictator, while his supporters say he is the only credible counterweight to Ennahda, which resigned this year after months of political crisis.

UN Takes Over C. African Republic Peacekeeping
[ABCNEWS.GO] The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
took over a regional African peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic on Monday, nine months after sectarian violence erupted that has left at least 5,000 people dead and has forced tens of thousands of Moslems to flee into exile in neighboring countries.

About 1,800 additional peacekeepers and police are joining the mission as the United Nations takes over, though that force when combined with the existing African troops is still only about 65 percent of what was authorized by the U.N. Security Council in April.

Arabia
30 global channels declare 'war' on IS
[ARABNEWS] More than 30 international television channels will participate in a major awareness campaign to educate Moslems globally on the danger posed by the Islamic State terrorist organization that has taken over swaths of land in Iraq and Syria and killed hundreds of innocent people.

Islamic scholars from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Europe and other countries will take part in the weeklong campaign, which will be launched in Riyadh on Sept. 18, to caution the public against extremism and how terrorist organizations distort Islamic teachings.

Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said criminal organizations in the Arab world posed a major threat to Islam. "They are the first enemy of Islam," he said in a Twitter message.

"Targeting plurality in the Arab world means targeting Islam. Defending plurality, sticking to the fundamentals, means defending Islam," the minister said referring to the IS turbans and other Lion of Islams.

Riyadh calls for 10-year fight to wipe out terror
[ARABNEWS] The war on the so-called Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist organizations should continue for 10 years, said Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal on Monday.

Addressing a conference on Iraq, Prince Saud cautioned world leaders that the threat posed by IS has transcended the boundaries of Iraq and Syria. "We see that the planned structure to fight IS should continue for at least 10 years to eradicate this hateful phenomenon."

The chief Saudi diplomat explained: "It has become a danger, threatening everybody, and as such, should be jointly confronted."

Bangladesh
DB suspects JMB, Ansarullah hand in Faruqi murder
[Dhaka Tribune] The Detective Branch of Police has claimed to have nearly solved the mystery behind the killing of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat leader Sheikh Nurul Islam Faruqi.

They now blame the supporters of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team for their involvement in the killing that took place on August 27 in the capital.

Monirul Islam, DMP joint commissioner, told the Dhaka Tribune: "We are suspecting the involvement of JMB and Ansarullah Bangla Team after collecting proof. Now we are trying to identify the people involved. We are very close to solving the case."

Russia has role to play in fight against Islamic State: Lavrov
[Al Ahram] Russia on Monday offered its help in the international fight against the Islamic State as global powers step up efforts to help Iraq battle jihadists.

"We have got a contribution to make to the joint efforts in the specific area of ensuring security in Iraq through consolidating society and mobilising it in a fight with terrorism and extremism," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Gay Paree.

"We will do this in parallel with promoting a broader aim of starting a comprehensive, deep analysis of every aspect of terrorist threats," Lavrov said in remarks released by his ministry.

He was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an international conference convened to formulate a common strategy against the Islamic State Lion of Islams.

Representatives from around 30 countries and international organizations gathered after the Islamic State beheaded a third Western hostage over the weekend and the United States said it was considering air strikes on jihadists in Syria.

"We are also providing military and other assistance to Syria and other countries in the region which face -- maybe to a lesser extent -- a serious terrorist threat," Lavrov added.

"These are our partners in Egypt, Leb, Yemen and Jordan."

Europe
Germany's Jihadists: Young, Male, Losers
[TheLocal.de] The hundreds of Germans who have travelled to Syria to join jihadi groups are largely young, male and failed at school and in their careers, according to a report from the security services.

Germany officially bans terror group Isis (12 Sep 14)
Police arrest four more Islamist terror suspects (09 Sep 14)
Salafists go on trial for Bonn bomb attempt (08 Sep 14)
Terror suspects seized at Frankfurt Airport (08 Sep 14)

The report from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which has been seen by the Berliner Morgenpost, showed that of the 378 German Islamists who have headed to Syria since mid-2012 just one in four finished high school.

Six percent finished post-school training and two percent went into further education.

Almost 90 percent of those who have travelled to Syria are men. The youngest to go was 15 years old and the oldest 64, but the largest number (one in three) are aged from 21 to 25.

One in five were registered as unemployed and just 12 percent had a job. Those who did work were mainly employed in low paying jobs.

The analysis from the security services showed about 60 percent were born in Germany while eight percent were born in Syria and six percent in Turkey.

Of the 378, the office found 233 had a German passport and, while most were born as Moslems, 54 of those who had travelled to join the jihad were converts to Islam.

The most high-profile German to join a jihadist group is Denis Cuspert who was a Berlin rapper under the name Deso Dogg.

He is now known as Abu Talha al-Alman and fights for Islamic murderous Moslems Isis. He released three albums between 2006 and 2009 but ended his rap career in 2010 when he converted to Islam.

Another German extremists, Salafist Silvio K., has released videos threatening to attack Germany. One terror expert described him as a "star" of the jihadi scene, with around 5,000 to 10,000 supporters in Germany.

The security services also found that the young men's radicalization began in Germany's Salafist scene which has support in pockets of western cities such as Wuppertal.

Almost a third (117) had a criminal record before they were radicalized, mainly for violence and drug related offences.

Security services believe 40 Islamists from Germany have been killed in Syria. They include former footballer Burak Karan who played for Germany at youth level.

About a third who left have returned to Germany. In February a front man for Germany's domestic security service told The Local that "up to a dozen" of those who had returned were being monitored.

The fighters have reportedly formed a "German Camp" in Syria and authorities said this week they had stopped two men at the German-Austria border who they believe were heading to the Middle East to join jihadists.

'Govt machinery dysfunctional in KP'
[DAWN] Awami National Party
founded by Abdul Wali Khan in 1986. Part of the PPP-led cabinet 2008-13. The ANP is considered left wing, advocating for secularism, democratic socialism, public sector government, and economic egalitarianism....
general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain said on Sunday that government machinery in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
had become dysfunctional because of absence of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and his cabinet ministers as they had been participating in the PTI sit-in at the federal capital for last one month.

Addressing a news conference at the National Press Club here, he alleged that even government officers had been participating in the protest sit-in, as a result the ministries were being run by non-government organizations. "While people of KP have been suffering because of unavailability of bureaucracy, PTI and the Pakistain Awami Tehrik have been doing drama in the federal capital, making mockery of the country at the international level," he stated.

"ANP believes that parliament is the proper forum to resolve the issues and that my party will not support any move to derail democracy," said the ANP leader, adding that some demands of PTI and PAT were illegal and couldn't be met.

Replying to questions, Mian Iftikhar said that both the PTI and PAT should focus their attention on the help of thousands of persons who have been suffering because of devastating floods. The ANP general secretary also requested the media persons to stop coverage of 'political show', and instead give full-time coverage to the internally displaced persons of North Wazoo Agency and the flood-hit people to end their sufferings.

When asked a question regarding the political situation in Pakistain, Bajwa said that the Army was not involved in politics nor was it supporting a particular faction during the current crisis.

"We have held the view from the start that this was a political problem and that it should be resolved through the political process," said the DG ISPR.

Iraq
Ex-CIA director predicts 5,000 US personnel on ground by December
[The Hill] Former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden on Sunday said he predicts there could be nearly 5,000 U.S. personnel on the ground overseas by the end of the year to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“In terms of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics, advice, command and control assistance, tactical air control parties, look I’m betting we’re up close 5,000 by the end of the year,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Not to detract from General Hayden's estimate or the legitimacy of the mission, but has anyone here noticed the lack of discussion by the regime on the U.S. Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) issue in Iraq ?

#2  "Perhaps the entire ISIS effort came about a bit prematurely, that is, before the Champ left office."

I believe that is the case.

Champ is Muslim Bruderbund/Qatar/Iran/Hamas/Hizbollah. Note Iran fear of troop commitment. Talk no action. On the sly, no manly commitment. Same as Champ, at least foreign-ly.

Shi'ia really are pussies in re an actual fight. Their festivities with Saddam, a putz in a fight, was a stalemate even with Reagan's support. Thigh thumpers, not fighters.

I suspect they have had nukes for years, are afraid to use them. It took only one word from Bushies to stop them putting their shaped charges under Strykers in Iraq. Pussies. Same as Champ, on the international stage.

#3  Goodness, TopRev. And you seemed such a gentle, scholarly type when first you commented! ;-)

But "afraid to use them" is a truly wonderful thought. From your keyboard to God's ears.

UN evacuates all troops from Golan as Syria fighting worsens
[IsraelTimes] UN peacekeepers withdrew from all of their posts in the Syrian Golan Heights Monday, as regime forces and rebel factions battled for control of the areas adjacent to the Syrian-Israeli border in what the UN called a “deteriorating situation.”

A UN spokesperson said all the troops posted on the Syrian side had been ordered to pull back into Israel.

The Syrian armed groups posed “a direct threat to the safety and security” of the troops from the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), said UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

“All the UN personnel in these positions have thus been relocated to the Alpha side,” said Dujarric, referring to the Israeli side.

The UN spokesperson said that the situation on the Syrian side of the Golan “has deteriorated severely over the last several days” and that “armed groups have made advances in the area of UNDOF positions.”

A source with the UN said soldiers from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force evacuated from Camp Faouar — their main headquarters in Syria — into Israel, out of concern for their safety, CNN reported.

The withdrawal came as rebels reportedly gained control of almost the entire Syrian border with Israel.

Earlier Monday, UN troops were seen bringing their gear over the border via special gates opened for them by the IDF, according to an Israel Radio report, and not through the rebel-controlled Quneitra crossing.

#4  I think McCain said the bad rebels are the ones wearing ruby sandals.

Colonel Enriquez will tell you the good rebels will simply hold you until the bidding is complete.

Iran's Khamenei spurns US overture to fight Islamic State
[DAWN] Iran's supreme leader said on Monday he had personally rejected an offer from the United States for talks to fight Islamic State, an apparent blow to Washington's efforts to build a military coalition to fight bully boyz in both Iraq and Syria.

World powers meeting in Gay Paree on Monday gave public backing to military action to fight Islamic State fighters in Iraq.

La Belle France sent jets on a reconnaissance mission to Iraq, a step towards becoming the first ally to join the US-led air campaign there.

Terror Networks
Al Qaeda denies decline, admits mistakes by its branches
[Dhaka Tribune] Al Qaeda dismissed as "lies" a US assessment that it is in decline, but a defiant online message issued by the network on Sunday made no mention of the ultra-hardline Islamic State group widely seen as its rival for the leadership of global jihad.

"Whatever slip-ups or errors (regional branches)...may have committed are limited in number in the midst of mountains of good deeds and successes," said Hossam Abdul Raouf, an Egyptian veteran of the bad boy group. He said compensation and apologies had been given to unintended victimsm but gave no details.

Raouf, who served under assassinated leader the late Osama bin Laden

Kerry: Stopping foreign ISIS fighters more important than air strikes
[CBSNEWS] Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
on Monday said that stopping the flow of imported muscle joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, also known as ISIL) will be far more important than air strikes in the mission to stamp out the myrmidon group.

"The military piece is one piece. It's one component of this. It's a critical component, but it's only one component," Kerry said from Gay Paree after meeting with representatives from 26 countries to discuss the effort. "And the truth is, equally - probably far more important than the military in the end, is going to be what countries are able to do to help Iraq to be able to step up -- and other places, by the way -- to step up and start drying up this pool of jihadis who get seduced into believing there's some virtue in crossing into Syria to fight or to join ISIL.

"What this effort has to do is literally dry up the money, dry up the imported muscle, prevent the imported muscle from going home back to various places to do harm," Kerry continued. "It has to start major efforts to delegitimize ISIS's claim to some religious foundation for what it's doing and begin to put real Islam out there and draw lines throughout the region."
