[Chicago Tribune] Stuart Levine, the former political insider who criminal masterminded illegal backroom deals before turning government informant to help take down the Blagojevich administration, was sentenced to about 5 ½ years today in prison.
Levine, 66, apologized before the sentence was handed down. "I wish to express my deep regret to the people of the state of Illinois," he said.
He choked up when he thanked his children for their "continued love, which has sustained me."
U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve said she thought long and hard before agreeing to sentence Levine to the 67-month prison term called for under his plea agreement with prosecutors. Under federal sentencing guidelines, he would have faced up to life in prison but his extraordinary cooperation led to the sharply reduced sentence.
St. Eve said she was persuaded that Levine was a different person from the witness who testified in 2008 at the trial of Blagojevich fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko, saying his arrogance and egotism were evident then.
Wonder how quickly he'll regain his arrogance and ego...

(CNN) -- Federal agents raided City Hall in New Jersey's capital on Thursday, one day after they swarmed the home of the city's mayor, his brother and a campaign supporter.
"The FBI is executing search warrants at various offices at Trenton City Hall, pursuant to an ongoing investigation," said FBI spokeswoman Barbara Woodruff.
It was not immediately clear why the raids were conducted and authorities declined to elaborate. They were looking for clues to this week's Powerball?
Mayor Tony Mack, 46, responded to the Wednesday raids by saying he had "not violated the public trust in any way, nor have I violated any of my public duties."
He could not be immediately reached Thursday for comment.
Mack, a Democrat who began his term in July 2010, has been beleaguered by questions over public finance and accusations of cronyism. Last May, his deputy mayor, Paul Sigmund IV, was placed in long-term storage Please don't kill me! and charged with heroin possession and assaulting a police officer, which led to his prompt resignation.
Wednesday's raids also included the homes of Mack's brother, businessman Ralphiel Mack, and Joseph Giorgianni, a convicted sex offender.
