Araqji dismisses Powellâs claim of Syrian occupation
Beirut MP Adnan Araqji Monday dismissed US Secretary of State Colin Powellâs recent statement accusing Syriaâs troops in Lebanon of occupying the country. âEveryday, the United Stateâs unbridled pride and presumptuousness increases with a view to impose American hegemony on this region and laying its hands on its natural wealth,â the MP said in a statement.
That doesn't address the presence of Syrian troops in Lebanon, or Syrian hegemony over Lebanon...
Araqji, a member of Prime Minister Rafik Haririâs parliamentary bloc added that Powellâs statement reinforced His Majesty Syrian President Bashar Assadâs opinion that Iraq would be only the beginning and that the Americans would continue from there on to âimpose their control on Arab countries one after the other.â Araqji pointed out that Powellâs claim that Syria was occupying Lebanon was a stark âinterference in this countryâs domestic affairs and an aggressive act against other peopleâs freedom of choice.â
"Yeah. We chose to be occupied and treated like one of Syria's po'-relations..."
