ISAF HQ rocketed in Kabul
A rocket slammed into the headquarters of international peacekeepers in the Afghan capital of Kabul late Sunday, police said. Afghan police spokesman Haroon Safi said there were no immediate reports of injuries. The compound of the International Security Assistance Force is located across the street from the heavily fortified U.S. Embassy. A second rocket hit the Pul-e-Charkhi area, on the eastern edge of Kabul. The blast woke up residents in the city's Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood. Ambulance sirens could be heard and police were investigating. Asafi said the rockets were fired from several miles east of the capital. Kabul is patrolled by nearly 5,000 international peacekeepers, but there have been frequent attacks in recent months blamed on Taliban and al Qaida fugitives and forces loyal to renegade rebel leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
