Father-in-law of Saddam’s right-hand man Duri arrested
KIRKUK, Iraq - The father-in-law of Saddam Hussein’s former right-hand man was arrested on Saturday by US troops in the northern city of Kirkuk, said a police official. Shiekh Sufiyan Omar al-Nuaimi was arrested with three of his guards when US troops raided his home, said the official who did not wish to be named, adding that the men were now being held at a detention facility in the US military base at Kirkuk’s airport. Police are still searching for Nuaimi’s son-in-law, top fugitive Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri,

who is the most senior former regime element still at large and has a 10-million-dollar bounty on his head. The ailing Duri is accused of playing a key role in sustaining the insurgency raging on in the country more than two years after Saddam’s fall. Security sources said 19 other suspects were arrested in a number of raids by US and Iraqi forces in the Kirkuk region.
