Cindy heading for Louisiana; Dennis could be next
People living along the coast of Louisiana have been warned that tropical storm Cindy could hit land by Tuesday night. The storm system is not expected to strengthen into a hurricane, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. As of 5 a.m. EDT Tuesday, Cindy's winds were measured at 65 kilometres per hour. The storm was located about 400 kilometres south-southwest of where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters were also keeping an eye on a tropical depression in the southern Caribbean that could develop into the fourth named weather system of the 2005 Atlantic season. Located about 650 kilometres south of Puerto Rico, the storm will be called Dennis if it strengthens as predicted Tuesday evening. Posted by: Steve 2005-07-05 |
