Locals seize mayor's office in Ingush city
Residents have seized the building of the local administration in the town of Karabulak, Ingushetia, a North Caucasus republic neighboring Chechnya.People have stormed the building, pushed the administration head, Ibragim Arsamakov, out of his office and said they will not leave till the republicâs leaders come to the scene. According to the latest reports by Interfax news agency, the republicâs PM, Ibragim Malsagov, has already arrived. Negotiations with the protesters are currently under way. The protestors are demanding land holdings they have reportedly not received since 1988. They accuse the local administration of corruption. However, the republican governmentâs press service quoted by the agency said the administration office in Karabulak was not seized by local residents. The press service acknowledged that land holding problems have existed in the town for more than 20 years. Ingushetiaâs president, Murat Zyazikov, has dismissed Karabulakâs mayor for an âincorrect approach to the solution of problems and a lack of attention to the peopleâs needs,â the press service said.
