Three Taleban fighters killed in Afghanistan clash
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Three suspected Taleban fighters were killed and two wounded in a gunfight, which also left five policemen injured in violence-torn southern Afghanistan, a police official said on Wednesday. The fighting erupted late on Tuesday in the Shah Joy district of Zabul province, on a main highway between the capital Kabul and the former Taleban stronghold of Kandahar province, local police commander Qauoom Jan told AFP. “Three Taleban were killed, two were wounded,” Jan said. “They took away their dead and wounded Taleban. We had five of our men wounded.”

Purported Taleban spokesman Mullah Abdul Latif Hakimi, calling AFP from an unknown location, said 45 insurgents had initiated the hour-long gunfight and added that none of their fighters was killed and only one was wounded. “Only one of our mujahedin (Islamic holy warriors) was wounded,” he said.
