Arafat, Abu Mazen agree on government
IRNA -- Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and his Prime Minister designate Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, have reached an agreement on the composition of the next Palestinian government, ending one of the severest internal political crisis. The agreement was apparently effected by Egyptian Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman who convinced both Arafat and Abu Mazen to overcome their differences over who will assume the interior portfolio post in the new government. Palestinian sources said Arafat and Abu Mazen agreed that Abu Mazen would also act as the interior minister of the PA government.
So Yasser got his way, Dahlan's out, and Abbas is going to figurehead it...
The Palestinian legislative council is expected to convene early next week to ratify the Abu Mazen government. The United States said it would publish the quartet blueprint for peace in the Middle East know as the roadmap right after the ratification of the PA government.
