Annan warmly welcomes French decision to tax airline passengers
Secretary-General Kofi Annan "warmly welcomed" on Tuesday the adoption by the French Parliament of levying a tax on airline tickets issued locally to benefit the health sector in developing countries, urging other countries to follow France's lead with similar measures, his press office said in a statement. "This is a significant step, raising additional sources of innovative financing in support of the efforts by developing countries to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)s," the statement said.
