SHC releases two LJ men facing death
 KARACHI: A two-member appellate bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday set aside death sentence for two activists of the banned religious outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) and ordered their release. An anti-terrorism court had given death to Attaullah alias Qasim and Mohammad Riaz for killing a man called Syed Kazim Shah during sectarian violence in Mehmoodabad. In another case, the SHC set aside life terms and other punishments for five accused in a kidnap-for-ransom case, including Salim Khan Tanoli, former protocol officer to a former Sindh chief minister, Khalid Moin and Muhammad Altaf, and ordered their release. An anti-terrorism court had given them life terms for taking Rs 15 million ransom from Ilyas and Rafiq after kidnapping them from the Jamshaid Quarters area. Posted by: Fred 2006-01-19 |
