Syria Backs Iran in N-Standoff
 Syria yesterday backed ally Iran in its confrontation with the West over its nuclear program, saying critics have provided no convincing argument to deny Tehran the technology. The Syrian support came at a summit of the nation’s two presidents to coordinate policies and consolidate their alliance under the shadow of US pressure and the threat of international sanctions against both. “We support Iran regarding its right to peaceful nuclear technology,” Syrian President Bashar Assad told a news conference with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. “It is the right of Iran and any other state to own nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
