Pakistan rejects US human rights report
The Foreign Office rejected as unwarranted on Friday the report by the US State Department on human rights practices in Pakistan. We reject the contentions made in the report regarding our political process, freedoms available under the law and our constitution, the functioning of state institutions, and general conditions relating to the rights and status of women and minorities, Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said. She said that the report lacks objectivity and fails to recognise the commitment of the government, and the important steps it has taken to promote and protect human rights in the country.Posted by: Fred 2006-03-11 |
