Algeria, US exchange intel
Algeria and the United States were said to have improved their intelligence exchange.Algerian government sources said senior intelligence officials have been meeting their U.S. counterparts over the last year regarding Al Qaida and related threats in the Maghreb region. The sources said the Algerian intelligence exchange has included the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency, part of the Defense Department. On April 13, Algerian Foreign Minister Mohammed Bagawi held talks in Washington with National Intelligence Director John Negroponte. Later, Bagawi, quoted by the official Algerian Press Service, praised intelligence relations between Algiers and Washington. Bagawi quoted Negroponte as saying that counter-insurgency cooperation between the two countries was excellent.
