Gunmen attack two mosques, wound eight east of Baghdad
(KUNA) -- Up to eight people were killed and wounded when unknown gunmen attacked two mosques and a number of residential areas in the Diyals governorate north east of Baghdad, Iraqi police said on Monday. A statement by the joint coordination center said the armed men attacked last night a mosque and a husseiniya (a religious gathering place for Shiites) in Al-Tahreer and Beni Saad areas in Diyala but no casualties were reported. The statement added that one person was killed and two others were wounded in a separate incident when gunmen opened random fire on a residential area in Al-Tahreer south of Baaquba.

Two others were wounded when gunmen attacked a butcher shop in Beni Saad and three civilians were injured in a bomb explosion in the town of Beldrouz. Meanwhile, the Iraqi police said it discovered five bodies of Iraqi soldiers in Diyala. A statement by the joint coordination center said the bodies were found near the Mendali project north of Baqouba. It also said soldiers were killed in criminal and terrorist attacks without adding further details.
