China Prevents Bomb Plots By Muslim Seperatists
Uighur militants in the predominantly Muslim Xinjiang region of north-west China, fighting to make an independent province named East Turkestan, have been prevented from bombing oilfields, power plants and major roads by Chinese police. "We've forcefully dealt a blow to the 'three forces' (extremism, separatism and terrorism) and maintained stability in Xinjiang" said the local public security deputy chief Wang Lexiang.
41 tonnes of explosives, 4.15 metric tons of materials for explosive manufacture and 6,540 grenades have been confiscated since 1990. The Xinjiang province borders Pakistan, Afghanistan and former Soviet Asian republics.
