US spy chief held secret talks in Australia in December
THE Prime Minister has revealed George W Bush's most senior intelligence adviser visited Australia secretly last December for talks with him.
The US Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, met John Howard on December 5 in Canberra during his working visit to Australia.
Mr Negroponte also met Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and Attorney-General Philip Ruddock in separate meetings that day.
But Mr Howard has refused to say whether their discussions included the future of the joint defence facility at Pine Gap.
