UK police likely to quiz Khatami
Former Iranian president Metropolitan police confirmed they were investigating complaints by two exiled Iranians, who claimed they were falsely imprisoned and brutally tortured while Khatami was in office. | Mohammad Khatami faces possible police questioning when he arrives in Britain this week to accept an honorary degree from St Andrews University, a report in the Sunday Times said. The report said the Metropolitan police had confirmed that they were investigating complaints by two exiled Iranians, who claimed they were falsely imprisoned and brutally tortured while Khatami was in office. Safa Einollahi (29) and Ali Ebrahimi (34) claimed that Khatami, who was in power from 1997 to 2005, was ultimately responsible for the atrocities they endured. The two Iranians want Khatami arrested under the 1988 Criminal Justice Act.
