Letters to Senator Kerry
Mrs. Bobby started on this right after the trick-or-treaters stopped ringing to doorbell. I'll start on mine right now.
Dear Senator Kerry:
I am deeply offended by your comment yesterday that
implied that only people who are stupid and
un-educated and have no other options enter the
military. Even if I accept that your comment was part
of an unsuccessful joke, there was no excuse for that
comment and you should apologize. And the rant that
you issued today against President Bush and this
administration and all Republicans was disgusting.
I am the proud mother of a U.S. Marine. A reservist
who entered the Marines right after graduating from
high school because he wanted to serve, not because he
had no other options. He was an excellent student and
was accepted into the University of Texas before
enlisting. My son has served a tour in Iraq and missed
another semester of college when he volunteered to
return temporarily to active duty after Hurricane
Katrina. My son is now in the Ready Reserve and back
in college.
Because I disapprove of your comments today about
President Bush and the Republican Party, please do not
assume that I support President Bush or the Republican
Party on all issues; I do not. But I do support our
military and did so before I was the parent of a
Marine. I suggest it might be valuable for you to read
the book, Keeping Faith, by John and Frank Schaeffer,
two of your constituents. (Carroll & Graf
Publisher,2002) Frank Schaeffer held an opinion of the military similar to what Kerry expressed, until his son John enlisted in the Marines.
