6 escape, 2 cops killed in jailbreak
QUETTA: Six prisoners escaped from a Baloch jail on Wednesday when armed men, disguised as visitors, smuggled weapons into the prison and opened-fire on policemen, killing two, officials said. The jailbreak occurred in the remote town of Turbat, approximately 600 kilometres southwest of Quetta, police said. “The attackers in the garb of visitors managed to take weapons inside the prison then fired at police guards and six prisoners managed to escape during the shoot-out,” local police official Mohammad Afzal told AFP. “Two policemen were killed and four others were wounded in the firing,” he said.

Azfal said that more than a dozen attackers had arrived at the jail in two vehicles. One group went inside the prison to launch the breakout, while those remaining outside gave them covering fire afterwards. Another police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a notorious drug trafficker, Ghulam Rasool, as well as Mohammad Yasin, Tabish, Mohammad Baksh and Wazir, were among those prisoners who had escaped. Some of the prisoners, he said, had been incarcerated on murder charges.

The shoot-out took place in the visitors’ room when the armed men began firing indiscriminately at jail officials, killing two on the spot and injuring four others, said prison officials.
