Rank and file ETA supporters rebel against leaders

The leader of ETA's political wing was attempting to quell street violence by the terrorist's rank-and-file. Arnaldo Otegi said he would go "from town to town to try to stop what was happening". Otegi said Batasuna, the illegal political wing of ETA was not involved in attacks on a courthouse in the Navarre town of Estella. But he said Madrid was "unable to go ahead with the peace process if ETA and its supporters did not appear to be abandoning violence".

who was sentenced to a fresh term of 12 years on Wednesday for making death threats to prison governors. De Chaos, who has served 18 years for killing 25 people, has vowed to stage a hunger strike to the death.
