Hizbul Mujahideen denies role in mosque attack
Hizbul Mujahideen on Sunday denied Indian military allegations that it had financed a weekend grenade attack on a mosque in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) that left five people dead and 50 injured. The Indian army claimed that the Islamist militant group had paid $20 dollars to labourer Ghulam Nabi Mir, 22, to hurl the grenade at leading south Kashmir cleric Abdul Rashid Dawoodi during Friday prayers.Mir was arrested after villagers identified him as a suspect. But the group’s spokesman, Ehsan Illahi, issued a statement to local media, saying: “Hizbul has never allowed lobbing of grenades on Indian troops in markets, streets or densely populated areas, so that civilians may not be harmed. Hizbul condemns the incident and is contemplating ways to punish the culprits.”
Then his lips fell off.
Meanwhile, lawyers from the Kashmir Bar Association have called for a probe into the attack.“The attack has to be looked into seriously and needs a probe by an independent agency,” it said in a statement.
