Basra-based UK forces come under rocket fire
(KUNA) -- All British locations and military bases in the south Iraqi city of Basra came under shelling overnight, a spokesman for the south Iraq-based UK armed forces said in a statement Thursday. "Up to 26 Katyusha rockets landed on the outskirts of the British Embassy in central Basra while the Basra Airport, which is also used by British forces as a military base, came under fire and was targeted by nine such rockets," the spokesman said.It added that a further three rockets landed on the military base and Shuaiba south of Basra while the British military base in the Shatt Al-Arab strategic waterway north of Basra also sustained four rockets.
