Husband of Afghan politician killed in Kandahar attack
Suspected Taliban gunmen on motorbikes ambushed a female provincial councillors car in southern Afghanistan, killing her husband, police said on Wednesday. The gunmen struck as legislator Zarghona Kakar and her husband stopped at a roadside bakery in Kandahar province late on Tuesday, provincial police chief Esmatullah Alizai said.
Meanwhile, one Afghan soldier was killed when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb on Monday night in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province. Separately, NATO forces said they killed 11 Taliban insurgents in the east on Sunday. Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah said the Taliban were plotting a fresh offensive against foreign troops in Afghanistan when the bitter winter ends early next year.
