Suspected top Lashkar guerilla killed in Srinagar
Indian troops gunned down a senior guerilla commander said to be from the Lashkar-e-Taiba, in Held Kashmir on Friday, spokesman for the Border Security Force (BSF) Tirath Acharya told Daily Times.

He said top guerilla Manzoor Zahid Chaudhry, reportedly from Lahore, coordinated operations in India. The commander was killed in a fierce gunbattle on the outskirts of Srinagar, he added.

A laptop computer and a satellite telephone were found from the scene of the encounter. âA date fed in the computer suggested that the guerrilla might have been part of the group that planned an attack on Gujaratâs Akshardham temple last year,â Acharya said. The BSF spokesman said the Lashkar commanderâs killing was a big achievement for the Indian agencies, which had been finding it difficult to check the militant groupsâ guerrilla activities. The killed guerrilla, he added, had several secret names like Abu Murshad, Abu Nadeem, Abu Jishan, Munna and Abu Zarrar.
