British soldier killed in Afghanistan
LONDON - A British soldier was killed and three others were injured in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said here on Thursday. The troops were on a reconnaissance mission Wednesday in the desert in Garmsir in Helmand, the southern province where the majority of British forces in Afghanistan are based. One soldier was killed, another was seriously injured while two others sustained minor injuries.It is too early to say what caused the explosion. There were no Taleban in the vicinity and there was no follow-up contact, said an MoD spokesman. The soldiers next of kin were being informed, he added. The death brings to 44 the number of British troops killed in Afghanistan.
