Afghan refugee stoned to death for killing boy
 GHALANAI: An Afghan refugee who killed a 12-year-old boy was stoned to death by tribesmen in a remote area of Mohmand Agency on Friday. A few days ago, some armed men broke into Mirza Khans house, killing his son Shah Khalid and injuring his wife. The men were later identified as Imran Khan, the son of Muhammad Ror, and Zahir Gul. The decision to kill Imran Khan in this manner was made by a tribal jirga in Baidmanai, where thousands of tribesmen pelted stones at him. The jirga also announced that no Afghan refugee would be allowed to live in Baidmanai and anybody found providing shelter to Afghans would be fined Rs 1 million. Another jirga would be held after Eidul Azha to decide the fate of others involved in the incident. There was no official comment over the incident. Human rights groups oppose such executions in accordance with tribal councils orders. The acting chief justice of Pakistan, Rana Bhagwandas, told reporters in Karachi on Thursday the jirga system was unconstitutional. Posted by: Fred 2006-12-30 |
