LJ plans attacks on Shia leaders and worship places
The intelligence agencies have unearthed a plan of the banned militant organisation Lashker-e-Jhangvi (LJ) to target prominent Shia leaders and scholars and carry out suicide attacks on Shia worship places in various parts of the country, Daily Times has learnt. In a report to the Interior Ministry, the intelligence agencies have said that the LJ has reactivated its activists for attacks on Shias and their mosques and imambargahs. They have also mentioned in the report that LJs underground militants will accelerate their activities as the holy month of Muharram nears, sources said.
The report says that LJ activists could target Shia leaders and scholars in various parts of the country. Among the Shia worship places, Jamia Al-Muntazir in Lahore, Qasr-e-Zenab in Bhakkar, Qasr-ul-Qaim in Sargodha and Imambargah Kharadar and Jamia Islami in Karachi could be attacked. In the backdrop of the intelligence report, the Interior Ministry has directed security agencies all over the country to take strict security measures at Shia worship places to counter possible LJ attacks.
