Somalia: Islamists decamp from Kismayu
(SomaliNet) The Islamic leaders and their fighters have withdrawn mid night from their last outpost in southern Somalia after facing superior power from Ethiopian backed interim government.
"Holy shit! Allahu akbar! That's live ammunition! We are outta here!"
Witnesses in Jilib town of Middle Juba region told Somalinet this morning that they saw large number of Islamist troops with their battle wagons moving away from the town and abandoned the frontlines.
"See ya! We're... ummm... goin' to get help!"
People began looting the properties of Islamists. “I could set eyes on militiamen driving a luxury car left by the ousted Islamists.”
The situation in the southern port city of Kismayo is now clam after the Islamists left there without war. Local militiamen were said to be roaming inside the city. “We have found that all the Islamist fighters and their leaders have deserted the city around 2:00 last night heading towards the western jungle of Kismayo, we could see their armed convoys rolling out of Kismayo,” Farhan Nor Lafole, a local journalist told Somalinet by telephone. He said no one now controls Kismayo and all the people rallied on the streets surprising the immediate change. Lafole also said people began looting the properties of Islamists. “I could set eyes on militiamen driving a luxury car left by the ousted Islamists.” No one knows the exact destination of the Islamic clerics but some reports say that Raskanboni Island in southern Somalia will be the last hideout of Islamic hardliners.
