Algerian militants attack army convoy, kill one
More on yesterday's story... A soldier was killed and seven were injured in a terrorist attack Sunday (January 21st) when a roadside bomb exploded under an army vehicle in Algeria's Jijel region, local press reported. The attack, attributed to Algeria's major militant al-Qaeda-linked Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), prompted the army to launch an offensive against the terrorists in the region. GSPC, led by Abdelmalek Droukdel -- aka Abou Mosaâb Abd El Ouadoud -- reportedly consists of 300 to 500 armed elements and is still active in the regions of Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Bouira, Me Sila, Batna, Sétif and Bordj Bou Arréridj.
