'Spectacular Attack Foiled' (UK)
Eight people have been arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of planning a "spectacular" terrorist attack. They were detained under the Terrorism Act after a six-month surveillance operation involving police from two forces. Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said officers feared the alleged plot was "coming to fruition"."This was an alleged huge plot, some sort of spectacular attack," Brunt said. He said it "would not have resulted in a mass casualties", suggesting a "chilling new departure" in terror tactics. The suspects had been tracked in a combined police operation led by the Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit. They were supported by officers from the West Midlands police and the Metropolitan Police.
