Blanco Bows Out of LA Governor's Race
Governor Kathleen Blanco (D-LA) has officially announced she will not seek re-election in the upcoming governor's race. She issued a letter to her staff Tuesday afternoon, stating: "Today, I am announcing that, after much thought and prayer, I have decided not to seek re-election as your governor."
The news of Blanco's decision comes as no surprise to anyone who can read a poll. Governor Blanco struggled to keep her political life alive for months following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The storms are blamed for not only destroying much of south Louisiana but Blanco's political career. But she kept up the face of a governor determined to stay the course, saying nearly 18 months ago, and again just last week, she would be on the ballot next October.
