Pir Double Shah fails to drop Rs70 million by helicopter
Pir Double Shah is in the news again
A rumour that Rs70 million would be dropped on Wazirabad through a helicopter by a local pir triggered quite a stir among the residents of the city and attracted a large number of people from Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Hafizabad and surrounding villages.
People gathered at a slum near the Wazirabad Railway Station where the money was expected to be dropped. Sibtul Hassan Shah alias Pir Double Shah, famous for doubling peoples money in 70 days, was said to be distributing the money.
People gathered at the scene said that 10 days ago they heard that Double Shah was going to throw away Rs70 million to mark Pakistan Day celebrations. I have come all the way from Kasoki (a village near Hafizabad) on Thursday night, said Zafar Iqbal, who had come to the site along with his friends hoping to get some of the money. We rented three coats because we had to spend the night out in the cold, Iqbal said.
My friends told me about the distribution three days ago, said Zubair Mughal, also from a nearby village. Women also came to the site and a local motorcycle rickshaw driver, Mushtaq Ahmed, said he had had a busy day bringing people to the site. I did not have time to sit down for a single minute today, he said, adding that a large number of women were also his customers.
The shower of money was scheduled to happen at 3pm. However, the people were later told that the pir had gone to River Chenab for a holy bath. My friend said that Shah and hundreds his followers have gone to the River Chenab and as soon as he returns, he would distribute the money, said Faisal Noori, a man waiting for the money.
He said Shah had never deceived anyone in the past and this time too, he would fulfil his promise. I invested Rs20,000 and got the double back. Now I have invested all the money again, said Noori.
Fazli, resident of the slum, said, Double gives the money or not, I will surely earn Rs500 by serving tea to the people standing here. I hope people keep on spreading such rumours.
Malik Javed, who came to Wazirabad from Sialkot, said he had hired four people at Rs500 each for collecting the money and had suffered a loss of Rs2,500 because of the false rumour. In addition to their wages, I also paid Rs500 for the four mens food, said an angry Javed.
Police officials were also patrolling the spot to control the mob and avoid any untoward incident. A policeman said at least 10,000 people had gathered at the site.
From a previous report...
Sibtul Hasan Shah, known as Pir Double Shah in Wazirabad, can double whatever sum is invested with him within 70 days, locals told Daily Times. Residents of the area said that Shah started this business some one-and-a-half years ago, and at that time he took only 15 days to double peoples money. They said that as his business grew, the number of days increased to 70.
