Separatists trained in Pakistan, says China
Separatists in Chinaâs Muslim northwest are getting help from international terrorists, including instruction in âseveral training camps in Pakistan,â the regionâs Communist Party secretary said on Thursday. Wang Lequan, who also is a member of the partyâs top-level Politburo, said the government is winning the battle against forces that oppose Beijingâs rule in the Xinjiang region. But he said the efforts are hampered by assistance from terrorists abroad. âWe are fighting hostile forces that are trying to undermine stability in China,â Mr Wang said at a news conference for visiting foreign reporters. âWe have found some training camps in Xinjiang after the September 11 incident, but not many,â he said. âThe religious extremists in this population are a very trivial number.â Mr Wang said the Taliban helped train many of the Xinjiang separatists. He identified Pakistan as a place where assistance continues. âThey have several training camps in Pakistan,â he said, without elaborating.
I don't think he had to. I wonder if the Paks will take the hint or try to lie to the Chinese like they do to us? |
