Bad boyz shoot up police checkpoint; U.S. detains 29
A group of masked gunmen in a civilian car opened fire on a police checkpoint in southern Samarra at around 1pm on Tuesday and killed five policemen, police Captain Riyad Yussef said. Three policemen were also wounded, he added.The US military said security forces had detained at least 29 suspected militants in raids in the last few days. At least 17 suspected militants were arrested on Tuesday in raids targeting the Iraqi chapter of Al-Qaeda and bombing cells in the northern city of Mosul and southern Baghdad. US and Iraqi forces had also detained 12 suspected militants linked to a rogue group of the Mahdi Army, the militia loyal to radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, accused of attacking US and Iraqi troops with explosively formed penetrators (EFPs), it said.
