17 people injured in twin blasts in Assam
NEW DELHI - At least 17 people were injured when suspected separatist militants set off two blasts in India’s north-eastern state of Assam on Sunday, news reports said. Police said militants from the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) carried out the bombings in and around Sibasagar town, 370 kilometres east of state capital Guwahati, the PTI news agency reported.

The first blast occurred in front of a police station in Sonari town, 40 kilometres from Sibasagar, and injured 10 people. A bomber who was trying to enter the police complex posing as a vegetable vendor was arrested, the IANS news agency said in its report.

A second blast at a bus terminal in the heart of Sibasagar came within 10 minutes of the first and injured seven bystanders.
That one was aimed at the rescue workers.
The injured were taken to local hospitals where at least five people were listed in critical condition. Police suspect the bombs used in the blasts were planted on bicycles.
