Ramadan starts Thursday for Lebanon's Shiite Muslims
The spiritual leader of the Shiite Muslims in Lebanon, Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, has declared Thursday as starting day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. Fadlallah, who has followers throughout the Shiite Muslim world, said on Friday that the date was chosen on the basis of astrological calculations in accordance with Islamic scientific rules. He said Ramadan will begin on September 13 across the world, including in countries in the Far East.In recent years, Fadlallah has announced the start and end of Ramadan in advance.
