OIC pledges to fight terrorism
The 10th Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) summit ended on Friday with its 57 members affirming their commitment to combat terrorism.

In a final communiqué at the end of the two-day summit, the OIC also tempered calls for the US to withdraw from Iraq and condemned Israel for its threats to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and airstrike in Syria. The OIC member states pledged to âcontribute to multilateral efforts to counter this scourge (terrorism),â while making the point of including âstate terrorism,â a term usually used to refer to Israelâs military actions.

The communiqué also rejected âselectivity and duplicity of standards in combating terrorism and all attempts to associate terrorism with a particular religion or cultureâ.
The OIC called for a UN sponsored conference to âdistinguish between terrorism and the legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination of people living under occupation or foreign dominationâ — a reference particularly to the Palestinians.
