Spike Milligan, dead at 83
Spike Milligan, comedian, author ("Adolph Hitler: My Part in his Downfall"), gadfly and the last surviving member of "The Goon Show," died Wednesday at the age of 83. Prince Charles, patron of the Goon Show Preservation Society, called Milligan's death "the end of a great era of British comedy."
Even though not ticklish anymore, Milligan is now able to crack jokes and drink beer in the company of his peers: Shakespeare, Jonson, Spenser and Marlowe. Britain is a little less Great for his passing, a little Greater for having had him.
