Abu Ayat jugged in Baku and turned over to the US
From Time Magazineâs Euro edition from October 13...The last of the al-Qaeda operatives from Georgiaâs Pankisi Valley still being sought by the U.S. was arrested in the Azeri capital of Baku in a secret operation in September, security officials in the Caucasus told TIME. Unless theyâve already caught Abu Khabab and Abu Walid, I wouldnât say that heâs the last. Abu Iyad likewise remains unaccounted for, though JUS said he was running the mujahideen in Iraq so perhaps he was killed during the fighting ... Abu Ayat was an alleged explosives specialist who claimed to be close to Osama bin Laden and had been on the run for over a year. He was handed over to the U.S., local officials say, and has probably been transferred to Guantánamo Bay.
