JI still training in the southern Philippines
The Philippine defense secretary says Jemaah Islamiyah militants have been training Muslim insurgents in the southern Philippines with money reportedly supplied by al-Qaida.Dear God, Iâm shocked! Wonder how many more graduates theyâve managed to churn out while keeping this whole issue bottled up by Manila politics? Eduardo Ermita cited intelligence reports in saying guerrillas of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front are being trained to make bombs by members of the Southeast Asia militant Islamic network. Ah, so thatâs why MILF wonât ditch JI - without them thereâd be nobody to train the next generation of terrorists ... According to one intelligence report, the al-Qaida terrorist organization recently gave a Jemaah Islamiyah handler 15-thousand dollars for the training. Ermita says the terrorist training areas are known to be strongholds of the MILF -- the separatist group that has been negotiating peace with the government. Ermita says he doesnât want to accuse the MILF leadership of bad faith, but urged them not to tolerate cooperation between their local commanders and Jemaah Islamiyah.
