Six suspected Islamic militants and a policeman were killed in fresh gun battles in revolt-hit Jammu and Kashmir after weeks of relative calm, police said on Monday.The fighting was reported from northern Kupwara and southern Shopian districts after Indian troops launched search operations, a police statement said. The deaths happened during three separate encounters between militants and security forces, it added.
